    Guillow's North American P-51D Mustang

    This is a some what simple balsa model airplane kit, with a 17 inch wingspan, the decals provided with the kit are for a P-51D/K, of the Korean war era. the model itself has two sides of the fuselage that are preformed/ cut in balsa, that speeds up construction time. This model kit is excellent for beginners as a third or fourth kit, and challenging enough to keep a seasoned model builder entertained. If you like P-51 Mustangs, you should have one of these in your stable. Happy model building. Tim K.

    Very difficult to build,

    I've built several Gullows model airplanes. This was by far the worst to build. The lack of laser cutouts made accurate extraction of the parts very difficult. The cutout parts are much thinner that those for their other laser cut models, The two fuselage sides were of different quality of balsa material (one very soft the other hard) which made them very difficult to assemble properly. The body and wing formers were so fragile that even taking care with a single edge razor blade caused many of the former edges to split out. I would not recommend this model to anyone even though it one of my favorite WWII aircraft.

    Good kit for the balsa wood kit novice.

    This is a good product for someone new to balsa wood kits. The directions are pretty comprehensive but you must read them carefully. Because the balsa wood is so thin, you must be careful handling it during assembly.

    not happy with this model

    I have one 2 other Guillows balsa wood models, the Hellcat and the Warhawk which were very good. This one, kit 905, much to my surprise was no were as good. The balsa wood was less thick,the form pieces for the wing, fuselage and rudders had to hand cut out for the 1/16" wood strips. Over all it doesn't look half as good as the other two. I am concerned about buying other models since all of these models were Guillow kits.
