Das vorliegende Buch ist aus einem Teil der Statikvorlesungen des Verfassers an der Technischen UniversWit Hannover entstanden. Es umfaBt etwa den Inhalt der in den ersten fiinf Semestern gehaltenen Vorlesungen iiber Stabstatik. Die Statik der FHichentdiger ist nicht enthalten. Anfangsgriinde der Mechanik - Kraftezusammensetzung und -zerlegung an beliebigen starren Korpern - wer- den vorausgesetzt. Das Buch beginnt dort, wo es sich urn die Berechnung der Tragelemente der Praxis handelt. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist zu Beginn dem ersten Semester angepaBt und wird erst allmahlich gesteigert. An Vorkenntnissen wird zunachst nicht mehr vorausgesetzt, als ein Student mit Reifepriifung wissen muB bzw. miiBte. Spater werden die inzwischen in den Mathematikvorlesungen erworbenen Kenntnisse iiber Vektorrechnung, gewohnliche lineare Differentialgleichungen, Matrizen, Determinanten und Variationsrechnung benotigt. Das Buch solI ein Lehrbuch, kein Nachschlagewerk sein. Der Springer-Verlag hat zwei hervorragende Werke, die beides sind, herausgebracht *. Es ware sinnlos gewesen, ein Buch ahnlicher Zielsetzung zu schreiben. Die Beschrankung auf ein Lehrbuch erfordert zwangslaufig auch die Beschrankung auf einen Stoffum- fang, der von den Studenten in der zur Verfiigung stehenden Zeit bewaltigt werden kann. Fiir die gewahlte Stoffbegrenzung gel ten zwei Voraussetzungen. Erstens miissen alle speziellen statischen Fragen der Fachgebiete Holzbau, Stahl- bau, Grundbau, Beton-und Stahlbetonbau in gesonderten Vorlesungen behan- delt werden, so daB dariiber nicht berichtet zu werden braucht. Zweitens muB auch die EDV-Rechentechnik, die zur Losung statischer Aufgaben unentbehrlich geworden ist, als besonderes Fachgebiet an einer Universitat vertreten sein.
