The missing link in the Simon & Garfunkel discography, finally on CD in the U.S.! in fact, Paul long suppressed the release of this record in America; recorded in Britain in 1965 after the commercial failure of the duo's Wednesday Morning 3 AM album. It features a Simon solo in the British CBS studios singing I Am a Rock; Leaves That Are Green; the Sound of Silence, and more, including the Scarborough Fair precursor This Side of a Hill. This reissue includes unissued takes of I Am a Rock and a Church Is Burning, plus original notes and track-by-track overview by Simon and Garfunkel themselves!

    This is Paul Simon

    Before he was a household word, Paul Simon was performing, often in Europe. You'll recognise most of these songs and arrangements, of course, but each is a little different than you've ever heard them before. For one thing, Simon is a bit more raw, sometimes beating that guitar up as he belts out songs. The contrast between these recordings and his later more polished ones is striking. Hard to say which is better. These are, however, well worth listening to, no matter how many times you've heard the later recordings.

    Great Ensemble

    I love every song on this album accept Paul's rendition of Sound of Silence. Every other song is excellent. I've listened to it over and over - including Sound of Silence which I have gotten used to.
