About this product

Product Information

Name this Game is an enjoyable little underwater shooter with a not-so-little foe: a giant octopus. Players assume the role of a diver as he swims back and forth near the bottom of the screen, firing upward at the octopus' tentacles, which are blocky, but big, with a tendency to re-grow. The more imperative task is to shoot a shark as it swims across the screen, slowly making its way toward the diver. If the shark reaches the diver, it will carry him off in his mouth with the diver's legs flailing in agony. Another consideration is frequent oxygen replenishment, which is achieved by touching a line released from a boat floating on the surface. The action can get monotonous over time, and the game could use a few more sea creatures, but simple controls, nice graphics (the shark looks great, bubbles come out of the diver's tank), and challenging gameplay (without a lick of frustration) make this one of U.S. Games' better titles. Speaking of titles, the company held a contest back in the day to name this game, but it was never released under the winning moniker of "Octopus."

  • An average 2600 game

This is a good little game it works it plays well you most likely played many other games like it but it does what It does well. Great for 1982. You are a scuba diver on the bottom of the ocean. Shooting an octopus whos tenticles grow steadly and a shark who gets faster as gets closer to the end of the screen. You have an oxygen that is refilled by a snorcle on a boat.
