    I hope the cartridge functions properly when I open it in the future.

    These are really stupid questions. The product is still in the box as it would be for any purchaser who bought in anticipation of need. Toner does not "dry". The toner is heat fused to the paper. How long a cartridge lasts is a function of demand and coverage. "A long time" is a very subjective and therefore useless term.
