With finding studs I sweep left/right while tracing a vertical path marking positives, then drop a plumb line though the average. Works every time. As a very ocassional user it coming with and using AAA is a plus (ie no need to buy a 9v battery like some others use). For reference my walls are gyprock in a modern unit.
