        20 Picks of The Platters

        This is definitely one of the better single-CD Platters compilations out there if you can find it. The 20 tracks mostly consist of their hits from their 1955-1960 peak on the charts, but as a nice bonus there are three fine cuts from 1966-67, when they had a different lead singer and sounded rather Motownlike. Among the latter, "With This Ring" was a nice discovery for me. The first twelve tracks are in mono while the last eight tracks (starting with "Twilight Time") are in stereo -- real stereo, not a mono recording piped into two channels. The album was remastered by the respected engineer Bill Inglot, and the sound quality is excellent to my ears. The dynamic range grades out to DR11, if anyone is wondering.
