Minor nits, but a good router.

This is easy to set up and has many features. My favorite is the new QoS engine. It's a breeze to set up and much welcomed. Seems to be as powerful as my older high power router. What I really don't like is the total lack of network device activity LEDs. Then there is the fact that if you mount it on the wall (like mine) it's upside down and all your cables enter from the top and hang down over the unit. Whoever designed that should have his brain examined. One way or another I'm going to remedy that, as it looks like hammered dog $hit. Otherwise, it's good, especially the wireless speeds. ****Extended review...Now that I have used this for nearly a year, I have a better feel for this unit. It is quite reliable, fast and easy to set up, at least for me. None of that has changed. However, ...

    Much to do about little

This is 1st gen Ac technology. no much capabilities other than std AC wireless technology. router does not provide for all the setup options on newer routers and other brands

  • awesome router

This is an awesome router. I have gigabit cable for internet at home. I first bought a 50 dollar TP-Link Archer A7 it promised gigabit speeds but no. max speeds i got from the archer was maybe 240mb/s with only one device. so i ditched that thing and built a software based router (I'm in IT thats what i do) due to the CPU speeds available on the machine i built it on, i was getting around 430mb/s on a good day. again, only one device. i took a chance and purchased the D-Link DIR 885-L configured it and bam. I get around 980MB/S (Due to signal ingress cause of a bad splitter in the wall that i cant get to) and this is with about 29 devices on my network. This router looks like its a drone and wants to take off but it is also a really nicely engineered router. Even IF it is about 2 years ...

  • Died after 1 1/2 months.

Like the title stated worked well until LAN internet stopped working the about an hour later the router just started a boot loop. Trying to fac. reset sends it to recovery mode. I uploaded 3 different firmware for this model and it would continue the boot loop. NVRAM needed to be wiped. not something most people can do. THESE ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY

  • Useless, returned in the first week

October 2019 ... Does not stay online. Drops internet. Tried new cables, firmware updates, numerous resets, etc., etc, but this router will not stay online for more than one hour. Tech support is useless. Router is no longer under warranty, requires premium paid tech support from d-link. This item is NOT on manufacture direct warranty and the tech support is NOT free. Buyer Beware ! I am back using a 6 year old Western Digital. It may be slow, but it is reliable and stays connected.
