As good as a 2005 Corvette
An excellent example of a three digit (D100, D200, D850) Nikon. 10 megapixels is plenty, and since I have a bunch of cameras with the CMOS Sensor, I don't mind this having a CCD. I find that cameras with 6 mpix up (Nikon D100, Canon 20D, etc. work fine, are quick processing, and don't take so much room in the cloud. Plus, you can shoot in RAW (NEF) with a manageable size file. It feels good and solid in the hand, Large size viewfinder makes it easy to get verticals and horizontals squared away. Menu choices reasonable and manageable, four shooting presets on the menu. No automatic setting like on cheaper Nkons. (Default settings are fine, but this camera is one that responds well to custom settings. I love it and oftenn reach for it in preference to my D2X, and my 24 megapixel D7100.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great Camera For The Price. Get One If You Can.
The D200 is an excellent camera for being an older model. I was able to pick it up with a lens for about $185 with shipping and I couldn't be happier. It's more in depth than point and shoot cameras I have used, but it's still straight forward if you do your research and learn how to properly use it. I recommend buying a cleaning kit and some silica or other anti-moisture packets because mine was delivered with some dust in the body and a little bit of fogging on the lens, so it's good to have it around as a precaution if you are a first time buyer. Even if you can't pick it up with a lens, I highly recommend this older body as it is above average image quality, has all the features you could want, and has a professional feeling and weight than most of the $500-800 entry level cameras on the market. Heck, I think it's even cheaper to buy this and to get a good condition kit lens off of here than it is to buy a brand new one. Nikon D200 Review 5*
This has a CCD sensor. The colors are brighter and more "film" like. I like it better. This was a semi pro camera. It still is- but it's "only" 10 mega pixels. It's a APS "DX" sensor- anything smaller, even if more mps, usually ,means less low light quality. Like indoors. If you don't print bigger than 8x11", you'll never notice. If your hand is steadier than mine, 36x48" prints are good. 4x6s, 5x7s- normal prints- are really really good. I also have a 24mp D7100- that allows me to crop off 2/3 of the shot and stll have decent quality. But the D200 has the same high quality pictures, as long as you're not a heavy cropper.. The D200 takes all the Nikon lenses, flashes, etc. Make sure you get the "3E" batteries, not "A". For most people, a fast 16gb card, 1 meter usb, 2 batteries: and shoot JPGs, large, fine. You'll be a happy photog. Look up Youtube for settings and tutorials. This camera is a very well built and feels substantial in your hand- much better than the newer more plastic, light-weight consumer dslr's. It packs many features into its controls while still being easy to use for the basic user. A truly great option for someone who is getting into photography for the first time as well as the more seasoned photographer. Great camera at any price.
Excellent camera when it first came out. Still excellent camera today. Has all the basic functions a good camera should have. Easy to use, easy to change control with lots of buttons. The metal body makes it feel indestructible. Solid feeling and feels like it will last forever which it should. I have seen these cameras with 300,000+ shutter counts and they still perform without any issues. Excellent pictures quality. Best Camera Buy on Ebay
Nikon's D200 is technically obsolete and therefore a remarkable bargain if you can find one with low shutter count and in excellent condition...and there are many. This $1600 camera now sells for about ten cents on the dollar...is very sturdy, a good match ergonomically with larger lenses, providing a good grip, yet reasonable size. The pictures can be stunning! 10.2 mp is more than enough, and the CCD sensor provides images that many prefer to today's ubiquitous CMOS units. It is noisy at high ISO, but up to 800 works just fine. Sharpness and color are conservatively set up at default, but post production can add anything you want. You can do point and shoot on auto settings, but have a remarkable number of options as you learn. The D200 "The Tank That Still Can"
The D200 is a awesome low light and night shot camera being only 10mp (BIGGER Pixels gather light faster allowing faster shutter speeds). perfect for low light situations! The D200 is still a awesome sport camera too, as I never lost a shot. Colors are a little to punchy for my taste so I usually run the D200 muted or normal mode. Images are super sharp using the Nikkor 50mm 1.8D "Aperture Ring lens" And crisp with the Nikkor 24-50mm f3.3/4.5 lens (Both Cheep Glass that performs) Both offer the Aperture ring. I find the Aperture ring to be easier to use when shooting. These lenses seem to focus quick, quick enough for my needs. The D200 will stand on it's own in heavy rain even without a sealed lens. I never had a D200 fail. I have owned some D200's that clicked upwards 300,000 clicks and still went strong. The D200 is a true BATTLE TANK!! The only problem I encounter with the D200 is the foam/padding "what ever ya call it". that is used to cushion the mirror, the foam/pad somewhat gets in the way when cleaning the ccd. The foam also comes loose and ends up on the ccd a quick vacuum sucks it off the ccd. No big deal, some of my D200's I simply remove this foam/pad without any issues. Love me some 10.2 mp!! The pixel war has ruined everything photography is about. 8mp is all that's needed to match a 35mm film camera negative. The D200 is 10.2 mp CCD! but 8mp is all that's needed. The CCD is a more costly to produce chip compared to a CMOS. Nuff Said! Todays 24mp, 50mp, etc. cameras yield grainy softer images while the lower mp cameras of the past, offer stronger solid colors, sharper images, and less grain. I can live with slight colored digital noise at high iso settings compared to over the top, in camera processing, that leads to softer images and fake color renditions. No need to shoot RAW with this performer, no need to edit images either as the images are perfect right from the camera. OK... OK, maybe some slight tweaking of the WB here and there. I find out of 100 shots indoors, I might have to correct 3 or 4 images white balance. Not bad for a 15 year old camera.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Worth every bit of the price
Bought this camera really in the blind over this stuff, but I wanted to own a camera that was not like a point and shoot, and this fit the bill perfectly. Even at about 9 or 10 years old and 12mp as opposed to a new model of 20+, I get better results than I could think of. In 2008 I bought a new Rebel that I had no time to learn it, and sold it after 3 months. Now, I just recently retired and I am able to sit down with manuals and the internet. It ain't EZ or overnight, but this is a beautiful piece of equipment. It's not new, and has its little quirks, but being from a background in electronics I can understand the inner workings and commands. To say the least it is a bit of a challenge, but better than becoming a retired couch potato. After a few resets to default and a bit of nail biting over some little but necessary minor mechanical adjustments and a little alcohol, q-tips and a couple of carefully used squirts of air it is nearly like new. I'm a long time owner of many Nikon SLR's starting with a N90, D70, D70s, D200(2x), & D3s. I love all of them and have passed them down to family members that love photography. This 2nd D200 was in excellent shape all around. Basically new with only 1599 shutter clicks. it was a bargain at ~ $154.00 , it was for my grandson who is 16 and very interested in Photography. All I had to do is add a AF 35-105mm telephoto (already had), a battery and he was good to go. I still think he really doesn't know how good of a camera he has however, I know I've pointed him in the right direction, the rest is left up to him. Great value with beautiful color images.
Last of the CCD-sensor Nikon bodies. Color rendition is excellent, but usable ISO maximum is lower, so noise can be an issue if you crank ISO up. 10MP supports moderately large prints, but not with a lot of cropping into original image.
