A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
This game has everything wrapped up into one title. If you want a RomCom storyline for your standard dating SIM, it's in spades. But it also has an entertaining and challenging combat section that I spent most of my time prepping for during my first playthrough. I liked how plot points were established across multiple love interests storylines and built upon and referenced in another storyline. It gave a sense of continuity as a single shared narrative. Each love interest choice had a satisfying story and you really invested yourself into caring about their struggles. This game isn't a one-and-done, but if played hard mode like I did the first time. You will breeze through the rest of newgame+ much faster than the first playthrough. But in its defense, the game offers you the chance to reset certain aspects of the story back to zero to change that. So, I can't completely fault it for that.
