  • Looks Old-Fashioned But Isn't

This mic is much better than I expected. I sing blues and a little R&B, and bought this for its looks rather than performance. I had been using the fantastic Shure SM58 prior to this purchase and loved its warmth, clarity, frequency response, and cardioid (anti-feedback) pattern. To my delight, the Super 55 (not the 55sh) uses the same R59 element and has the very same qualities. So I got both the retro look *and* the great performance! Such a deal. I have three very minor gripes: the grill cloth (not easily replaceable) is blue, there is no ON/OFF switch, and the cloth is not as good a pop filter as the mesh on the SM58. I purchased an XLR in-line switch, don't enunciate directly into the microphone, and have just learned to live with the blue. It is a fantastic mic and I want to *strongly* suggest that you resist the temptation to buy a cheaper look-alike. This is an investment on which you should not skimp. Nuf' said.

  • Looks as good as it sounds!

I have owned the Shure 55SH mic in the past, and though it's looks were killer, I was never happy with the sound. It doesn't matter how good a mic looks on the stage, if it doesn't sound good, then it has no place there other than being a prop. At first I was turned off by the blue foam of the Super 55, but then I was struck with the idea of pairing it with bright blue XLR mic cables, and I thought it would really be a "signature" look and would pop. My biggest concern, of course, was the sound. I did a little research, and was happy to read that the Super 55 is a supercardioid mic based on the Beta 58a, which I love. This mic looks great and sounds great too. Bright and clear, with a great "sweet spot," and also does well on the lows. Some reviews have dinged this mic for being bad with plosives (b's and p's), but even using it with novices at an open mic, I found this not to be the case at all. Excellent gain before feedback allows for this mic to be close to stage monitors and gain cranked without any worries. Love my Super 55's!

  • Good strong sound and body, punch, wide range compared to beta 58

It gives our female vocalist a wider bandwidth, body and texture than the Beta 58. I was surprised. Little or No bleed over from other stage amps or drums. It also looks great. It takes a little bit to get used to as the 58 would extend out from the mic clip but Our singer loves it. I am picky about our sound and equipment. This was an good improvement.

  • Shure Super 55, not the cheaper 55 with the on/off switch

Sounds and performs like a SM58. I actually prefer the tonality of EV mikes, but I purchased this because of the retro look. AND the SM58 IS the standard of the industry for road mikes, so it is still great. If you use one of these on a boom stand, and your boom's pivot clutch pads are hardened or worn, it will not support the weight of this mike. But if you know how to redress the clutch pads, then you will be fine. I have yet to use this mike and not have someone from the audience come up afterward, and tell me how "cool" the mike looks. m

  • Excellent Mic

I owned a Shure 55 ii for a number of years. My new super 55 has the same great retro look along with a superior hypercardiod capsule from the Shure Beta 58 mic. This provides a higher output (about 5 dB), lower distortion, more clarity, and less susceptibility to feedback. The mic is very well made and immaculately machines and finished. Highly recommended.

  • Rock Solid & Rock Heavy !

I host karaoke and customers love this mic. Actually had them take pictures of & with it. So awesome looks, and proven Shure sound SM58 cartridge ! A few singers want to angle mic down and try to sing into the "Top" of it with no fins or opening ( solid top ) so don't get good pick up. So perhaps not good for amatuers ?

  • Great Microphone

Although a little heavier than most mics (about a pound and a half), this mic looks and sounds fantastic. Has that great retro look and feel, but definitely not a retro sound. The sound is nothing short of astonishing. I would not hesitate to recommend this mic to anyone who does live performances. It's a bit expensive though (Retails for about $250). It is built really solid, but is of great quality inside and out. You can't go wrong with this mic.

  • Classic Look with Quality Sound

Sounds very clear and smooth. Exciting to use because of the classic look. Easy to find the mic and position your mouth because of its size and shape. Must be careful of "p" sounds and blowing on the mic.

I absolutely love this mic....i'm lead vocals...the frontman of The 29th Street band .. A well established Tulsa blues band Used it at a gig last saturday night and was amazed at the sound quality and how Beautiful it was on stage in the lights Money Well Spent

  • Fulfills all my expectations

This is the real deal. It's not cheap, but it's a great value. Extremely high build quality, excellent sound, and stunning appearance on stage. Highly recommended. Protip: It's a pain screwing it on and off of a mic stand, and eventually the threads will wear out. I recommend an On-Stage Stands QK-2C Quik-Release Mic Adapter. Easy on, easy off, and very secure. Protect your expensive mic!
