Taking place four years after the events chronicled in 1998's hit arcade game and subsequent Dreamcast port, Namco's Soul Calibur II continues its predecessor's weapons-based combat from within larger 3D environments complete with walls and breakable objects. Among the 13 returning characters from the series, which began in 1995 as Soul Edge, are Astaroth, Ivy, Hwang, Kilik, Xianghua, Taki, Heishiro, Voldo, and Nightmare. In addition to a retooled 3D engine featuring eight-way directional movement, a lineup of ten new characters has entered the fray, including Cassandra, Sophitia's younger sister, Necrid, a character designed by comic book artist Todd McFarlane, and Nintendo's Link from The Legend of Zelda, a GameCube exclusive.<br><br>The story begins as the mysterious and powerful Soul Edge makes its presence known to the world. Infecting anyone who wields it with a lust for power and domination, the sword had most recently found its way into young Siegfried's inexperienced grip. Transformed into an entity called Nightmare, the once noble knight is rumored to have caused widespread death and destruction throughout the latter half of the 16th century. Worse yet, illness and strange happenings have befallen those who once fought for control of the evil blade. The few who survived plan on battling for the enchanted weapon once more, some to destroy it, some to harness its power for their own gain. <br><br>Seven modes include Arcade, Versus, Survival, Team Battle, Time Attack, Practice, and Weapon Master, which offers players a chance to collect over 200 weapons while fulfilling a character's distinct storyline. Players engage rival fighters while advancing across a world map and must satisfy specific conditions to win, such as performing a combo attack, defensive move, or throwing an enemy off a platform. Once new weapons are acquired, ranging from battle-axes and swords to staves and spears, they can be used in other modes of play. Arcade mode is based on the 2002 coin-op game, Versus has players battling a friend, Survival is a test of endurance against a steady flow of enemies, and Team Battle involves pitting two groups of characters against one another. Time Attack challenges players to defeat opponents in record time, while Practice helps players familiarize themselves with the various moves characters can perform.Product Identifiers

One of the best guest characters ever featured on Soul Calibur! Great game!
This game is a really fun classic Soul Calibur installment featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda series. That's it's main selling point and it worked on me! He's one of the most over-powered characters in the game and is a blast to play with. The Gamecube controllers leave a little to be desired for a fighting game, but I knew what I was getting into. I'm not reviewing the controllers anyway. The game is fun, goofy, and awesome just like I remember it. A true fighting masterpiece.
Of the three version of this game, I'd say just because of the controls. This is the definitive Soulcalibur Two to pick up. I own all three and I enjoy playing this one the most. Now for the Xbox Original I love playing as Spawn. But playing as Link the Hero of Time is still by far the coolest experience. As for the Gameplay, it is solid. There is a lot of content to grab in SC2. You will be fighting lots and lots of enemies. It never gets old. As for which is the best version of Soul Calibur, most likely SC3 for PS2. But, when it comes to controls and fast paced action, this is a wonderful title you could sink a lot of hours into. Soul Calibur II, a multi-platform classic
What can I say about Soul Calibur II, it has amazing music, graphics still hold up, great game mechanics, and fantastic exclusive characters for this entry, actually it's the first in the series to do so, I remember holding local tournaments in my house for this game way back and they were an absolute blast, the gamecube version of this game will always be my favorite (Sorry Spawn fans) mainly due to Link, overall I give SCII for the GC an 9/10 pick it up if you can find a copy out there.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

King of 3D fighters
Soulcalibur 2 is one of the best fighting games of this era, certainly my favourite 3D one. It's got tons of depth, but also is fun to play casually. Not original but its still good
Disc looks in good shape as does the manual and case art but as for the case its actaully not an original gamecube case in fact its just a plain old dvd case which is kind of disappointing cause i was hoping it was completely original i guess its not to bad at least it looks original i can always just buy a plain gamecube case which is no big deal im happy it got here faster then expected so not to bad for the price!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great game, great condition
The game came in on time and the wear and tear was minimal, and mainly pertaining to the plastic on the case, which I fixed by swapping the case. The disc and manual were in perfect condition and the game worked fine. As for the game itself, Soul Calibur 2 is an amazing 3D, weapons-based fighting game. It's old enough to be forgotten by older gamers and likely unknown by new gamers, but after playing it for a bit it still holds up. It's a great game to add to my collection and now with the 20th Anniversary underway, we may be expecting a resurgence to its glory days with a new title if we're lucky.
