About this product

Product Information

The Brother PT-90 label maker is part of the simply stylish line of P-Touch products, and it makes labeling a breeze. Put the perfect touches on eight stylish patterns to keep things organized at home or at the office. The P-Touch PT-90 label maker is a personal, handheld device with a typewriter-style keyboard that adds a decorative final touch to any project with a thermal print built to be functional and simple. The Brother PT-90 was designed with a large display so users can clearly preview the label before printing out the tape. The display is LCD and shows 12 characters. This label printer is uncomplicated and easy to use, and is sure to become one of your favorite office accessories. There is a range of design for labels, from simple to fancy. A variety of type styles are included to jazz things up, and for even fancier labels, add special symbols or text frames or use a pre-designed "Deco" label layout. This personal label maker prints non-laminated labels on M-series tapes up to 0.5-inch wide with one to two lines of text and has a lot more to offer with its design capabilities than first meets the eye. Although the Brother P-Touch P-90 label maker comes with only one font (Helsinki), there are eight different type styles that give your labels any tone you like, from a fun tone for children’s items to professional tones for the office. In addition, the Brother P-Touch PT-90 has 173 symbols, seven different frames, and eight deco mode patterns that allow you to completely customize your labels and make them your own. Using one of the seven frames (Round, Leaf, Tile, Star, Heart, Square, Bubble) supplies your labels with personality and adds a great creative touch to your creations. The eight deco mode patterns (Normal, Bold, Outline, Shadow, Italic, Italic Bold, Italic Outline, Italic Shadow) add another artistic flare and help set the tone of your labeling. All of these features in one easy-to-use printer make labeling your items easier and more fun than ever. Color code craft supplies, organize the children’s toys, keep the desk free from clutter, or enhance a map or guide with these quality labels. The Brother P-Touch P-90 labeler comes with accessories of its own in the form of three interchangeable faceplates that let you give this printer your personal style. Match your labeler to the decor in your home office, or even match it to the supplies you already have. The Brother label makers come with a black on white tape for your creations and work with “M” tapes of any color. The PT90 allows you to easily design labels, and with the easy-view, 12-character LCD display, you check your work to know exactly what your label will look like before printing. No more wasting ink or tape. As an added bonus, the compact design of the handheld thermal printer makes it small enough to go mobile. The PT-90 uses AAA batteries and is easily slipped into a bag for on-the-go labeling. Office accessories have never been more fun or easier to use than with the P-Touch P-90 label maker from Brother.

    Nice labelmaker for the price

Produces clear labels; easy to use and to set up. Replacement tape is pricy; like printer toner you soon wind up paying more for the replacement tape than what you paid for the printer itself. I would have liked the label maker to accept wider tape so larger labels can be generated. Overall a good product at a reasonable price.

    Brother PT-90 label maker

I purchased this because my PT-100 died on me after 20 years of faithful service. I decided that this would be an acceptable substitute. I put the new batteries in and immediately the screen showed " weak batteries" I knew this was wrong because I always test my batteries before use. I presumed that it would work the same as my old one. I had to look up the instruction sheet to get it to work properly. On top of that, the sheet is at about 30% compressed and I needed a magnifying glass to read the instructions. All things considered the unit does a great job, crisp labels, and once you get used to the new process to start making labels it's ok. This was not my first choice, but, now that I'm using it, I would buy again. The prices range low to high, shop around for the best deal. Thanks

  • Not a good product

I have a Brother PT-110 which worked reliably for years. It's been a real workhorse. Last week it stopped working. I bought this PT-90 to replace it. What a disappointment the PT-90 is. I put brand new batteries in the PT-90, printed one label and the display said, "Low Battery!". Another reviewer mentioned this same problem. Compared to the PT-110, the PT-90 is very difficult to use. For example, to change font size on the PT-110 you press Code+Size. Simple. To change font size on the PT-90 you press Fn, right arrow or left arrow multiple times (depending on the last function used), Return, right arrow, Return. Not simple. This can be slightly less complex by pressing Fn+Q (to go directly to the size function), Return, right arrow, Return. The same is true for most all of the PT-90 functions. On the PT-110 most all functions are simple Key+Key, while on the PT-90 they're all multiple different key presses, sometimes five or more just to make a simple change. All of the functions of the PT-110 are labeled on its keyboard. There's no labeling on the PT-90 keyboard to direct you to any function. When you use a graphic on the PT-90 it doesn't show the graphic on the display. It shows an alphanumeric code instead. The PT-110 shows the selected graphic on the display. It gets worse. While the PT-110 has a smaller display, it is infinitely easier to read. Others have mentioned the problem I have with the PT-90 display. It is very difficult to read unless you're looking straight down on it. Right now I have my PT-110 side by side with my PT-90 on my desktop. The PT-110 display is crystal clear. The PT-90 display is completely unreadable. Every pixel on the PT-90 display is black. I can't make out anything. But if I lean forward and hang my head directly above the PT-90 display, then I can read it. What a pain. The PT-110 display is crystal clear from any angle. I just noticed something funny with the PT-90 display. When you turn it on, the display is crystal clear for a split second. Then all the pixels go black, unless you hang your head directly above the display. The same thing happens when you turn the PT-90 off. The display is crystal clear for a split second before it goes off. I visited the Brother Web site and checked the FAQ list for the PT-90 to see if there is some way to adjust the contrast or viewing angle of the display. I have some other devices with LCD displays that let you adjust the contrast or viewing angle to get the clearest display. Here's the answer I found from Brother: "There is no contrast adjustment on this machine. ... For optimum view, please look at the display directly (not at angle)." So I guess you have to hold the PT-90 straight out in front of you or hover your head directly over it. Not a good design. The ergonomics and user interface of the PT-90 are terrible compared to the PT-110. In fact, they're terrible all on their own. I'm glad the PT-90 only cost me $18. I won't feel so bad now using it as a paperweight. Out of desperation I took my old PT-110 apart and found the problem. A lever that presses the feed roller against the tape had broken. Unfortunately the plastic is polyethylene so you can't glue it. Luckily I was able to work around the broken part by using a bit of cardboard to make a wedge to press the feed roller against the tape. My PT-110 lives on!

  • Perfect Small Thermal Printer!

This small thermal printer is perfect for household and garage use. It prints a label that is easily read and to make. I own seven of these perfect little machines because I was always running to get it from the next room. Perfect size to store inside a kitchen drawer or craft area tabletop to ensure an organized space or dated open item in the refrigerator. Brother. I love the PT-90!

  • Easy to Use

After each label is printed, the screen reads low battery. Annoying, but doesn't affect the actual printing.

  • Brother products are good stuff

The P-Touch works fine. Good thing; it is the only thing I received in the package. So with that said, after a few tutorials and a download from Brother I am able to navigate the printer.

  • Easily makes labels, but not so easy to peel off the backing.

I like everything about the label maker with the exception of the built-in peeler needed to remove the label backing. Most of the time, finger nails are required to pull off the backing.

  • Display

Only thing I noticed is a person has to look straight down at the display or it blurs. This is minor and doesn't cause a problem after finding this out. It serves my purpose well for the things I do with it. Doug / Texas

  • It's a nice labler but,

Theres one thing wrong with it after I print a label it says, battery low! So I figure maybe it was my battery's. But I replaced them with brand new battery and it still continues to say, low battery. Other then that it does its job.

  • Good Value

Fortunately, I had read reviews of this iten (or similar) before purchase. Displays a "low battery" warning often. Turn off, then back on, and it goes away. Still on my first roll of label tape. On my second set of batteries. A good value. Would purchase again.
