Optimize your camera's performance with this compact Sony SEL 24mm f/1.8 Sonnar wide-angle lens. Noted for being the first Sony Zeiss E-mount lens to embrace the classic Sonnar design, this lightweight optical device enhances your camera's ability to achieve spectacular image dimensionality and presence. The device contains seven circular aperture blades, which produce a smoother, more natural defocusing effect on the background of your image because of the shallow depth-of-field.The Sony SEL 24mm f/1.8 lens has many different features that will enhance your photography. The aspherically flanked aperture effectively minimizes spherical distortions and aberrations, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality. A particularly well-designed aspherical element can reduce the total number of elements required in the device, thus keeping the size and weight to a minimum. Moreover, as focal lengths get longer, a normal optical glass would have a problem with chromatic aberrations. But the Sony SEL 24mm lens has an extra-low dispersion element that suppresses chromatic aberration and provides better contrast across the entire image. It also has a direct manual focus system that lets you directly fine-tune the camera's focus after lock-on without having to switch modes.Additionally, this type of device achieves impressive overall resolution, even with the aperture open, because of its excellent corner-to-corner sharpness. The E-mount T lens enables you to take high-quality photos with your camera in low light conditions due to its remarkable range of f/1.8 to f/22 and 24mm focal length with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 36. The device has a maximum magnification level of 0.25x, so you can take dramatic close-ups with exquisite detail. Because the device can focus as close as 6 inches, it can offer a combination of close focus and wide-angle perspectives. You can be assured that even in poor conditions, this well-made, high-quality camera lens will still give you incredible performance. Carl Zeiss covers the surface of its lenses with a special T-Star coating, which almost completely eliminates flares, internal reflection, and light scattering that can otherwise mar your photographs. The Carl Zeiss T-Star coating produces a high contrast and uniform resolution right out to the edges of the image for superior quality. The lens's internal drive motor produces fast and smooth autofocus operations, minimizing noise and image jitter. To reduce glare and improve saturation, this device also accepts a complementary 49mm filter. The Sony SEL Sonnar 24mm f/1.8 lens is compatible with Sony's NEX series of mirrorless digital cameras with an APS-C image sensor. Tested to withstand various real-world conditions, this Sony device can go almost anywhere. The lens's frame is tough and durable, but also lightweight and compact. The release version of this product comes with a front cap, a rear cap, a case, and an ALC-SH114 petal-shaped hood that attaches with a bayonet mount.     My new favorite lens

    I use this on my a6500 for video and couldn't be happier. The sharpness, contrast, color and bokeh are all really pleasing. On paper it seems over priced especially next to something like the Sigma 30mm 1.4 but after using both lenses you can tell this has a more pleasing image (for me at least) Dont get me wrong the Sigma is a Great budget lens but if you have the money this lens is really fun to shoot with and the image is noticeably crisper and cooler. It's not worth $1000 though, make sure to pick up a used one in good condition for $700ish, that price feels right for this lens. On trips I want something light this is the perfect all around focal length for me. Wide enough for landscape, architecture ect and not too much distortion for peoples faces. Make sure your lens and camera have the latest firmware updates to get the best results. Unfortunately there are not a lot of videos out there to see examples (at least from a video perspective) before buying the lens which made me wonder about getting it in the first place, but I think it simply is because of the price and how inexpensive the Sigma is which you can find 100's of videos examples of. For me I'm very happy with this lens!

    Only if I could have used it......It was going to be a gift for my sons camera .....but it’s only for the 6000 series Sony camera. My son has 7a series camera . So I immediately canceled my order. but if you U tube the 24 mm you will see how many people are really happy with the lens. Wish I could have made the deal. Mark la Croix

    The perfect everyday, travel, and street photography lens!

    No OSS so it’s back to basics

    This lens had a learning curve for me because it lacks stabilization. I couldn’t figure out why my pictures were so soft until I put it on my wife’s a6000. She shoots lots of photos of our grandchildren on the fly and utilizes shutter priority, hardly ever going below 1/125 even with OSS lenses. Problem solved for me. I now shoot 1/125 indoors, and 1/160 outside unless I’m going for a certain effect. Sharp pictures, great contrast, wonderful color. Don’t overlook Clear Image Zoom either, as it will take this prime lens and make it into a credible 24 - 48 (36 - 72) zoom and enable you to use this lens as an all purpose one. An important consideration given its cost.

    Althought used infrequently this is a relatively compact wide lens I bought for its speed and low light capability. Pictures are excellent with minimal acceptable vignetting. Excellent glass and crisp clear pictures. A big step up from the standard kit lens that came with my A6000.

    Jewel of a lense

    Sony Zeiss 24 mm, f1.8 lense is a beautiful wide angle lense. Great for landscape, portraiture, fashion and close-up (macro) photography. Mechanism is very smooth and super fast and quiet. It renders beautiful, crisp colors because of its excellent glass elements and the Zeiss *T coating.

    Good basic wide angle prime for Sony Alpha's

    Good Lens

    surprisingly light lens with really good finishing that i am almost don't want to use to prevent scratches (Joking) the lens is now on my a6300 but has not the time to see how sharp images are, however i made this purchase after reading so many good reviews it is a wide prime lens and the angle of view plus the F1.8 makes it great for indoor photos

    Video

    I wanted a lens that would emulate the 35mm film look and let me tell you that this does the job pretty well. It’s not a TRUE full frame, but since i own the A6000 then you would know about the sensor. Let me tell you, on video, (with proper lighting , ND filters, etc.) it’s a beautifully sharp lens. It’s not as sharp on pictures as I would like it to be, but i mainly shoot video so that’s why it’s the lens that stays on the most. I recommend using the Sigma 16mm for pictures as it’s one of the sharpest lenses you could own.

    Excellent fast lens

    I have not used the lens a lot yet, but in a few uses in the northern Canadian wilderness, I photographed an eagle grabbing a fish from a lake well past the hour of great lighting. The fast lens on a Sony A6500 did a great job of getting the shots at lower ISO than any of my other lenses.
