About this product

Product Information

The Sony PlayStation in classic gray comes outfitted with 8MB of graphic memory and a 34 MHz processor for a retro gaming experience. Built-in memory slots allow you to expand storage options while the multiple inputs let you connect the console to various controllers. The Sony PlayStation 1 connects to your television with AV cables. You can play classic PlayStation games all over again, including "Crash Bandicoot", the original "Twisted Metal," and an endless array of Japanese role-playing games. Anyone looking for an upgraded version of the original Sony PlayStation should give this model a try. The most noteworthy changes were internal, including simplified shielding, simplified PSU wiring, and relocating the CD drive. One of the most prominent changes done for the SCPH-5501 version was the removal of the RCA jacks. The RFU power connectors were removed from this series as well. In addition, the text for the power and open buttons were changed to symbols. The system also lets you play your favorite music CDs for a party or for just listening to around the house. These consoles will provide you with solid midrange sound. To lower RFI noise and heat damage, the laser assembly was repositioned away from the power unit in this updated PS1. Instead of requiring manual biasing to maintain the laser circuitry's tracking, the 5501-series is equipped with auto-biasing for proper tracking. One of the most outstanding features about this iconic device is its impressive dynamic range. This player can deliver crisp details, deep bass, and reduce graininess and edginess in your favorite songs. Instead of having the output RCAs for stereo audio like the original series, this device is equipped with an A/V multiport jack. The jack utilizes an A/V breakout cable equipped with an RCA connection to minimize distortion on the signal path between the output and the DAC.

Ps1 Digital good quality refurbished product

I went from using 2 different scart sync on luma cables from retro gaming cables uK and official Sony scart euro cable these paired with retro tink 5x. This is the best option without modification to your console. Ps1 digital the console I got I can just attach any hdmi cable then to your tv. My opinion this mod is the best way to go when they say it’s a pure digital signal from motherboard it is. The picture is the cleanest I’ve seen from ps1 hardware also I didn’t really do anything except lower gamma 2 settings for brightness and no lag. The retrotink 5x picture from rgb seemed a little dark and some latency maybe reddish a little the whites aren’t as white and colors not as bright. This Ps1 digital looks the best on my setup at least. The ps3 emulation ps1 games it’s not bad but again unmatched vs ps1 digital. You can do more in the ps1 digital but I prefer sharp pixels. So I recommend this product for cleanest signal. Also region free and the games seem to load faster. Shipping was good reasonable time and packaged good.. one more thing all capacitors were replaced.

The PlayStation CD Laser Has Low Voltage + No Sound From Fans

My PlayStation came in a bad condition. The laser has very low voltage, preventing it from reading discs. I tried to fix it because I previously fixed my GameCube laser but this was so much harder. The open button got sticky and almost got stuck. Power button is wobbly, and I couldn’t hear the fans, almost like there was no fans. This made me so upset, and this product is worse than my Original Xbox which has a broken clock capacitor. If you want to waste 45 dollars on a broken PlayStation, then do so.

  • Great system.

The Playstation one may not have the graphics you see on today's consoles but it does have a lot of games worth playing. For me that's mostly the RPGs. Memory cards for it are cheap and usually you can get the system itself for a low price. The set up is about as easy as modern consoles. If you don't sit close to television I'd advice getting a six foot extension for the controller. The one that you can buy for a PS2 works with a PS1 as well. Both systems have identical controller hook ups. Keep in mind that memory cards are not interchangeable. The PS1 memory card uses blocked memory where each block is reserved for a game save. The PS2 memory cards are memory based, kind of like USB thumb sticks. You can use a PS1 memory card in a PS2 for a PS1 game ... but you can't use it for PS2 games or use a PS2 memory card for PS1 games.

  • Bought it for the case

The beast was sold 'as is' with no assurance that it was running, which was perfect for me as all I wanted was the case. I gutted it as soon as it arrived, never testing to see if it worked as a PS 1, ran it though the dish washer to clean it up, then set it in the sun covered with a peroxide cream to clean get rid of the yellow old plastic cases get. One more trip through the dishwasher, and then I installed my raspberry Pi in it along with a homebrew power supply and USB hub. The shell now runs more games than it ever saw in it's first life. The grandkids love it.

  • An amazing find

The Playstation came with an RFU connector, the system itself, a power cable, a dual shock controller, and a d-pad controller. The console itself was in great condition and worked quite well. The RFU cable was a surprisingly better inclusion over an AV connector, as the antenna port on the back of my tv has no other use, so I don't have to switch out cables every time I want to use the system. The controller was a bit smaller than I am used to, but the joysticks and buttons feel quite fluid, so I can deal with that. Overall, a good console which is more than worth the price of $22.00.

  • Nice start for entry level game collector

This is a great console to start off with if you want to get into classic gaming. The graphics which lie perfectly between Old School consoles like the NES and modern consoles depict characters well and the games for this system are still pretty easy to find and normally pretty dang affordable. In addition PS games also play on the P2 so if you were to purchase the p2 and get rid of this system; you could still play games from your PS library. The Nostalgia factor reads loud and proud as playing this system brings me back to the turn of the century each time I power it on. Perhaps not quite as iconic as the NES but it's pretty close for a fraction of the price for the games and hardware.

  • A 32-Bit Powerhouse!

I've always been a Nintendo guy and never really bought or owned any Sony consoles (aside from a used PS2), but when I saw a PlayStation 1 going for a low price, I decided to give in and give it a try. From what I've experienced so far, I can gladfully say that the PlayStation truly masters 2d games and has a excellent library of 3d games. This Powerhouse does have flaws though. The menu UI looks very dated and there are only 2 controller ports. Ignoring these issues, the Sony PlayStation is an excellent console you should try out!

  • Good value, exactly what I expected.

This was exactly what I needed - a working model 5501 without any cables or anything else (I already have that stuff). I modified this console with the XStation optical drive emulator. Worked just fine and overall this was a much better value than purchasing a console at one of my local used game stores.

  • Decent product

System is super clean and works great. The controller does not work properly. X and triangle buttons are broken. Great shipping time as well.
