SONY......the one and only!
With a little investment, the PS3 can be brought back to top performance after it has aged and a little wear and tear. With a little maintenance (cleaning and dust removal) it can last a bit longer. Get it Professionally repaired when needed. (Sending it to SONY is not necessary)

The first and still the best!
When bluray was first introduced by Sony, I purchased a PS3 and got 10 years out of it, entirely for playing blurays for my home theater. I have not been able to find a better 1080P bluray player and it is a shame this is a discontinued model. With the purchase of this fine used model I am back in business with many nights of movie watching on bluray, plus streaming movies.

Wanted a backup PS3 to mod. Fine but loud fan noise.
Wanted a used PS3 to mod. Reasonably priced. Figured to upgrade the hard drive. Was able to mod, no problem. Look to either purchase a larger hard drive. Only drawback is after a short period of time, a lot of fan noise. Still, am happy with the purchase.

Only way to go
The PS3 had a serious problem with overheating. Though most of the overheating issues came from owner neglect, Sony had to go back to the drawing board on this one. If you are electronically inclined, I would suggest only buying any Playstation used or for repair. You can buy these systems a day long for around $25, and fix them yourself. When it breaks, buy another one. Ultimately, you could spend your hard earned cash on a real system......any series XBOX will do.

These first PS3s are the only PS3s that have been blessed with the ability to run the LINUX OS side by side turning the console into a Personal Computer. (The slim does not have this ability). You will need to know how to downgrade OS and install Linux yourself. 6. Beautiful Shiny Chrome Finish as compared to the Slim's dull matte finish. 7. Has the ability to use the PS3 hardware to smoothen graphics and speed up PS1 and PS2 games. Can also create internal virtual memory cards for the PS1 and PS2 using the PS3's hard drive.
