About this product

Product Information

The TNT original GETTYSBURG is a sweeping production depicting the events that led up to the Battle of Gettysburg and the three-day battle itself, which claimed tens of thousands of lives, turned the tide of the Civil War, and eventually put an end to slavery in the United States. An excellent production illuminating the horrors and heroes of this uniquely idealistic war, the film boasts terrific performances from Jeff Daniels, Tom Berenger, and Martin Sheen. The screenplay was based on the best-selling novel THE KILLER ANGELS by Michael Shaara.

An Epic Cinematic Achievement Depicting The Preservation Of The "AMERICAN REPUBLIC"

After Suffering Through 2 Defective DVD's (@ Chapter 19 And Catastrophic Failures) I Wanted To Have A Working Copy Of This Epic Cinematic Achievement In My Video Library... So For My Third Copy Of This Work I Purchased The Directors Cut "Blu-Ray" Rather Than Take A Chance On Purchasing Another Defective DVD Copy... The Characterizations Of The Performing Artists Is Phenomenal... Each Lent Humanity And Compassion To The Historical Figures They Represented... The Additional Footage In This Version Adds A Better A Clearer Understanding Missing From The Highly Cut DVD Version... The Only Detraction Of This Edition... Is That It Lacks The Interviews And Production Notes Contained On The DVD Version... (Shame... Shame... "Ted") A Ted Turner Masterpiece Portraying The Preservation Of The "AMERICAN REPUBLIC"

    Gettysburg: Director's Cut (Blu-ray) New

This film lasts nearly 4 hours and would have been better if it had been edited to fit a better time frame. Actors were good, however there were lengthy talks about tactics with very little on the Gettysburg Battle. Save your money and buy "Gods and Generals" a much better film!

  • A Civil War drama well worth viewing!

This is one of my favorite historical dramas. The Actors were very convincing in their respective roles and the overwhelming number of Civil War reenactors came with their own uniforms and weapons. Beautiful production in every way. Very moving! Very heart felt! Two of my ancestors fought in the Civil War and their rescored personal experiences tell of terrible hardships, pain and suffering. Some of that comes home in this movie.

  • Historically accurate

Cliff Notes version of the Battle of Gettysburg on the wide screen/Blu-ray dvd. Every conflict has two sides to the story with the truth falling somewhere in the middle. Great acting by professional actors and Civil War Reenactors. The Farnsworth House in Gettysburg has a display of relics and costumes used in the making of Gettysburg.

  • Fake beards aside, this was quite entertaining

"Gettysburg" is the film version of the book, "The Avenging Angels" and is true to the story. The film is long, but consider that the actual Battle in 1863 took place over 4 days! The acting was generally OK and the film makers used actual Civil War reenactors to fill out the cast. The casting of Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee was a bit odd (he looked like a midget on a Shetland pony and his "southern" accent was poor) and the beards on most of the actors looked really bad. Historically speaking, however, the film was quite good.

  • Great Film but Low Quality Blu-Ray

This is one of he best films on the Battle of Gettysburg but the Blu-Ray was only routine DVD quality.

  • GETTYSBURG

I was amazed at the quality picture compared to the old DVD. It amazes me that a DVD could be improved like this one was. I have been to the battle field and this movie was very accurate on locations. The use of re-enactors added to the realism.

  • Gettysburg Directors Cut

I loved the movie. Characters on both sides were engaging. The scenes were great. A great movie about a terrible time in our history. Too bad Ted Turner opted not to make a movie about the last book from Jeff Shahari called The Last Full Measure about the last two years of the war and the final surrender.

  • Arrived nicely packaged. I will be doing more hunting for DVD's at Blowitoutahere, hopefully I can find more gems and hopefully a few odd ball items.

  • Gettysburg - Turning Point of the American Civil War

Gettysburg is the retelling of the battle that was the turning point of the American Civil War. Hoping to decimate the larger Union Army by getting it to fight in the open in Pennsylvania, Southern commander General Robert E. Lee failed to achieve victory and so the Confederate States were not able to sue for peace on their terms. Cast of thousands including many Civil War reenactment brigades on both sides. The battle is captured well. The acting is very good once you get used to the cavalcade of modern actors having quite lengthy beards. A long but worthwhile watch.
