No Highs, No Lows, Must be Bose.

I take my laptop computer with me when I minister to inmates at a local prison. I normally around 40 inmates at my sessions. I show short videos and play christian songs through my laptop with a projector. Now I am having over 80 inmates show for sessions and the speakers I would using just didn't play loud enough. I wanted speakers to be able to play 108 dB with good sound and small enough to fit in my case that I carry out every Thursday. These Bose Companion 20 speakers were the only ones I could find that fit the criteria. Sound quality is the typical Bose sound, poor highs and lows with just okay mid-range. But for my needs, they work just fine. They can play very loud and do not require a separate sub-woofer. There are many better sounding speakers, but not this small with the volume that these can play at and without a separate sub-woofer. These fit my needs. They are built with solid construction and the remote wired volume control is handy. I purchased these at less than half of retail so I feel I got great value from the purchase.

    Bose Speakers

These speakers are only loud but without an impressive sound quality. AIWA had far better sound quality. Apparently, consumers are satisfied with loud speakers, but the true echoing sound heard in a concert hall is not produced by today's speakers. These speakers are not worth the price and it's just a name brand.

  • Surprising, great sounding speakers with no subwoofer needed.

These are terrific sounding speakers and give bass response I would never have thought possible from a system without a subwoofer. I replaced a no longer functioning 2 + 1 system and these speakers sound better than the older system ever did. I have had no problems with the remote on / off / volume device. The only reason I rate these speakers a 4 instead of 5 is for two reasons. One is the aforementioned remote controller. The On / Off function is really TOO sensitive. It takes almost nothing but a wisp or air to activate it. If anything brushes against the controller the speakers can turn on or off. I suggest being sure you place the controller in a safe area that will not be hit or bumped. I use my computer keyboard to adjust volume, so don't use the controller for that purpose anyway. The other thing I would like to see is some adjustments for treble and bass on the speakers themselves. Sometimes the bass can be TOO strong and it would be nice to be able to turn it up or down as needed. I am thinking about downloading sound equalizer software, though the built in equalizer in iTunes does a nice job, but that only works when using iTunes. So overall, I highly recommend these speakers. I'm listening to them right now with an online radio station. Terrific sound!

  • Great if...

If you got the companion 20s off ebay for a relatively good price then these are great for the money. However, if you're looking for excellent quality your gonna need some decent sound playback software to help clear up the muddiness that you sometimes here and to add a bit more to the vocals. Fortunately I do so I'm totally satisfied. I am looking into somehow connecting a subwoofer though.

  • Pricey for so-so speakers

A bit pricey so it is best to buy good used pair at about half the price. The pod volume control does not turn smoothly so it is difficult to get the exact volume you prefer. The bass is not very deep. For the price of a new pair, there are better alternatives in the market,

  • GET THESE SPEAKERS!!!

I've been a Bosephile since the 70's, first owning the 901's. I've had several other systems over the years, and I previously had the less pricey Bose Companion speakers. Man, these are way better.... If you love good sound in small package, these are great. Do yourself a favor if you need some good pc speakers. Bose never disappoints.

  • used Bose Companion 20

I bought used because I can't afford $249 retail price. Well I got well used one. No regrets, still has great great sound! It has some very light scuffs which doesn't affect the sound. All I want is the sound after all! Great decision to buy used in my opinion as long as the sound of it is still great.

  • Replacement Speaker

My power supply shorted out on my last Companion 20. All I really needed was the left speaker and power supply. I ordered the power supply before I found out when the old power supply connector shorted out, it destroyed the power connector on the speaker, so I ordered the cheapest full system that was operational. The left speaker from this order worked perfectly with my replacement power supply, so I have no doubt the entire systems would have worked as expected.

  • Full-bodied sound from desktop speakers.

These speakers make my music more enjoyable to listen to, and I love the separate volume dial with mute feature.
