About this product

Product Information

Photo enthusiasts who own Nikon SLRs with non-auto-indexing mounts will appreciate having the Nikkor Q 135mm f/ 2.8 lens in their photography collection. This 135 mm telephoto accessory brings your subjects up close while blurring out the background. The Nikkor-Q lets in a lot of light through the fixed f/2.8 opening. This makes it possible to shoot even in low-light conditions.Nikon manufactured the Nikkor Q 135mm f/ 2.8 from 1965 through 1973, making the Nikkor-Q a vintage model. This classic lens model is a must-have for collectors of photography gear. It is also an essential accessory for those who own Nikon cameras from before 1977. That was the year when the company introduced equipment models with auto indexing. This lens is specifically for models that are non-AI devices. Retrofitting is an option. Some photo equipment professionals can adapt a non-AI lens and mount it to an AI unit. The manual focus of these vintage lenses puts control over your artistic expression into your own hands. With practice, you will be able to quickly train your SLR on your subject and snap a fleeting moment before it passes. In many cases, you may be faster than the built-in auto focus on modern camera lenses. Manual focus is also handy in low-light situations. Plus, it can be helpful when shooting portraits because you can train in on the exact part of the face that you choose.Products in the Q series of Nikkor lenses are comprised of four elements; the "Q" in the name stands for "quadra." In the case of the Nikkor Q 135mm f/2.8, the optical construction consists of four elements arranged in four groups. This simple four-part design gives you a pure image without overcorrection from advanced automatic features. Because the light has minimal glass to pass through in this 135mm f/2.8 lens, you get a clear, crisp image. The rich color saturation that this accessory provides is noticeable in the final print.Depending on its year of manufacture, the Q accessory from Nikon weighs 1.3 or 1.4 pounds. With a focal length of 135mm, all versions of this device provide medium magnification and a mid-range angle of view. The Nikkor-Q 135mm f/2.8 has an optic angle of 18 degrees. There are seven aperture blades. The closest focal distance is 5 feet, and the maximum magnification is 1:9. The focus throw, which describes the angle of a turn of the ring from infinity to close, is 225 degrees. The filter attachment size is 52 millimeters. The unit has a diameter of 72.5 millimeters, and the accessory extends 96 millimeters from the point at which you mount it to the camera. It has a built-in hood to reduce lens flare and glare from the sun or other light sources.A telephoto lens like this Nikkor Q is an essential tool for professional and hobby photographers. This vintage model produces clear, color-saturated photos and works specifically with older Nikon models.

  • Preliminary Review- I was fully aware the Aperture blades needed repair when purchased. (Follow up)

I have only had this lens a few hours. Works great F8.0-2.8. Picture is sharpe, nice bokeh, color and contrast good. I use on a D600 and a Fujifilm X-Pro1. Can't wait to see how it will perform once I get it repaired. This is a nice to have lens for me. I have the 85 1.8 and the 80-200 both are AF. When using the 80-200 I found most of my portrait work was shot at 135 therefore I wanted to try a prime 135. The price was very good even after I factor in the cost of repair. Focus was smooth and the focus lock indicates really help me in low light. Can't wait to spend more time with it before I ship it off for repairs. Yep this is a keeper. (Follow up starts here) I think I have located a company in Atlanta, Ga that may be able to repair the lens. Shot more portraits in natural sunlight at apertures 5.6, 4, and 2.8. The focusing ring turns smoothly. I prefer the sharpness at 4 and 5.6 over 2.8. The bokeh is excellent at 2.8 put I prefer the combination of sharpness and smooth bokeh at 5.6 and 4. I can see using this lens for portraits or stationary subjects. My old eyes are not good enough to use this lens or any of my other manual lenses for weddings or sports. I love this focal point.

  • Great build quality but not for every one

It has a great build quality, the focus ring turns 360° making it easy to use the manual focus (most of the reviews say it is smooth to turn but I got mine very heavy). At f2.8 it is a little soft and start to be sharper from f4 to have its maximum sharpness at f8. Don't buy it if you don't like the manual focus or the manual mode, not practical for wedding photography when you need fast shots. It's a good deal if you find it at a low price.

  • Sharp, Great color saturation and contrast.

I love this lens. It's super start, great colors and contrast. Not much left for me to do in post-edditing. It's very small and build well. Down side is that it is manual focus but it's actually fun and I get 8 out of 10 shots in focus. Even tracking moving objects is not hard. It does great in good light conditions. I prob would not recommend it for indoor shooting but with good light or higher ISO you can still use it. My pictures were not edited and I was shooting on Nikon D7100

  • Sharp, Heavy, Durable, Manual Goodness

This lens is great, so great that if you are considering buying one, you should. It's heavy duty and feels like it could withstand a whole lot of use and travel. The one I purchased is nearly 35 years old and it still feels perfect, everything works as should and the shutter clicks nice and loud and it just feels good. It's a great walk about lens and allows you to get some interesting city life shots from a fairly decent distance away. It's a great lens and a couple of the images that I have taken with it (in only owning it for around a month) have already been published. People are impressed. You should probably buy one.

  • Perfect portrait lens and good for street photos as well

Tiny scratches on the lens barrel and tiny dust on the interior (no big deal), otherwise works flawlessly both optically and cosmetically. Strongly recommended for portrait and long distance street shooting (very good at creating theatrical scenes). Perfect sharpness (not affected by the dust) and background separation. Not significant fall out on the corners with aperture wide open. Handles low light situation very well with a full frame camera. Overall superb quality and good value (considering Canon135F2L costs five times over).

  • good value

aperture ring disassembly and AI adaptation and reassembly quite easy, well built lens, the hood is a big plus, f2,8 is brilliant, especially when used with the teleconverter. The Kenko TC doubles up as an extension tube (you can take the glass out), which I didn't know and it's great to have. The picture is stopped down quite a bit, shot on TriX film, with the Nikkor

  • Classic in every sense of the word

This lens is a joy to behold, a pleasure to use and the images that come out of it are first rate. I own both the Q and the QC and frankly I don't see a difference... both are superb. I am using this 135 f2.8 on a Nikon Df. Prior to the Df, when I felt particularly masochistic, I used these non-ai lens on a Nikon F body along with a handheld light meter. when I felt lazy, I would switch to a Nikon F3 body and ditch the meter. I would scan the negatives to digitize them and finish the process using Photoshop... then print. I was happy with the images. Now, using the Df, these 50+ year old lens (and me) have been given new life. The images aren't just better, they are stunning. They produce a different aesthetic than new lenses. They give you wonderful color without over saturation, terrific bokeh, time to think and I have total control over the entire shoot. ** These are not the lenses to use for fast action shots** Best of all, the entire shooting process is a joy. All the work is gone. The downside, I feel guilty. I'm having too much fun with so little work... I'm working on getting over the guilt.

  • Best lense you will ever own.

This is probably the best lens nikon ever made. It is sharp as anything with beautiful bokah and colour. It is manual focus which if you are not used to will take a little practice. Also if you have a DX camera the crop factor will make this a roughly 200mm equivalent which is pretty narrow. Still for portraits it is second to non.

  • The Nikon ai 135mm is a well constructed yet compact for its focal length

This is a great lens that has an interesting focal point. Photos are very sharp to my eye. It's compact while still being a telephoto. Great to get back to just manual focus on a D750.

  • Fast, good, old lens

This fast mid-telephoto lens is very durable. The focus ring works very smoothly. There is a clever built in lens hood. The optical performance is optimized at aperture f/8, giving very sharp images.
