Works just fine with 2v preouts.

Like others have described, engine whine is an issue with this unit. I added 2-20 amp RCA ground loop isolators to fix the issue (an additional $20). I`m using all 4 channels (no sub) to power 4 Blaupunkt 4 way 6x8`s (4ohm) in my 2005 Taurus. New 14 gauge speaker wire throughout, with 10 gauge power/ground wires. Amp is mounted under the passenger side seat, runs cool at any volume. Head unit is a 2010 Pioneer DEH 5300HD with 2v pre out voltage. Gain is set to 3/4, and there is no distortion, even with the 2v pre outs. Strong bass, crisp highs. Terrific bargain unit!

Sounds great, if your car is not running...

I got this all installed and it sounded great. Easy to install even using the high level inputs. However the trouble began as soon as I started the car. I could hear (loudly) everything the car was doing electrically. Radiator fan, alternator, ignition, power windows, turn signals, everything. I went through all of the usual grounding checks and even went so far as to ground the amp, head unit, and antenna to the battery. Nothing helped. I'll be looking for a new amp. Anyone want to buy a Boss R1004 with less than an hour of run time on it!?!?

  • Excellent

This may be a cheap amp with zero crossovers but it is an excellent entry level amp if you understand frequency responses and such. I measured this amp on a dyno and at 13.9v and 4v into the low level preouts I am getting 41 watts by 4 at 4ohms with the gain at 3/4. THD is 0.01 at 3/4 gain and S/N Ratio is a true 96db at 1 watt. That is fantastic specs for such a cheap amplifier. Highly recommend if you're looking for a little extra power on a small system. I'm using this amp to run 6 1/2. two ways and 6x9 3 ways. Very loud and clean. Just don't expect clean signal much passed 3/4 gain. That's the distortion threshold. If your headunit only has 2v preouts, don't bother getting this amp because without clean audio voltage it will distort at less than half gain. Hope this helps. I'm a sound engineer and own my own stereo shop so I understand the specs.

  • 4 channel Boss Riot 400 watt amp

I bought it on ebay. It's not the sellers fault it was a brand new Boss 4 Channel Amp that cost $35 I wasn't expecting window shattering music. I was however expecting to be able to listen to music louder than my pioneer stereo puts out. I hooked up the amp with the truck off it sounded great I was very shortly excited. As soon as I started the truck with no music playing the horrible noise this amp doesn't filter out is unbelievable for an amp made in 2018. I have been installing systems for years and knew I was buying literally the cheapest not from walmart amp I could. I regret not spending a few extra $$ and buying a good 4 channel amp. I immediately took it out of the truck and I am in search of a good cea compliant amp. You get what you pay for.

  • Great amp great price.

Great amp. Definitely increases volume by double. Only complaint is that it lacks bass even with 4 aftermarket speakers.(Boss Chaos) u can hear the bass. Not feel. Overall great buy for 40 bucks compared to most.

  • good for the price

At 35 watts end per channel at 4 ohm, it's good for running highs. There is no built in x over, so it's good to use one.

  • Great low cost power amplifier

As with most power amplifiers, power to the remote terminal turns on the amp when audio source (radio) turned on. My audio hum through the speakers was corrected with a ground loop isolator.

  • Great little amp :)

I bought this little guy because I'm replacing my head unit with a nexus 7 2013 tablet. I'm not sound quality expert but comparing this amp to factory/aftermarket head units, I am suprized on the clarity this gives even the factory speakers in my 07 dog ram. No clue how this little guy compares to the big boys, but if your upgrading from a head unit to a amp this is a must for the price. GREAT VALUE! Very happy.

  • dont buy this one

Not the most powerful amp thats for sure, now for unknown reasons I only have output for the front, no rear sound coming out of amp. Good price if you like weak crap that breaks.
