About this product

Product Information

The NETGEAR ProSAFE GS108 unmanaged switch lets you expand your network to gigabit speeds and/or higher port counts. These devices are suitable for corporate and other enterprise-level environments, but they are also versatile and convenient for home use. Small enough to fit on your desktop, this unit has been rigorously tested by the manufacturer, is built to last, and is energy efficient. Whether you are building a web server or setting up a LAN gaming hub, the GS108 will deliver quality performance. NETGEAR has designed the GS108 switch in a hard metal case. The case is designed to protect the internal hardware even if the unit is dropped to the floor. The case is stylish and well-suited for standalone positioning on a desktop alongside routers, modems, and other accessories. The case also supports wall mounting and is rack-mountable and has the type of compact form factor that is ideal for racks. Each of the eight Gigabit Ethernet ports is constructed of copper. This helps ensure efficiency and low resistance for a signal being transmitted over an Ethernet cable. ProSAFE switches are smart connections in that they automatically sense and adjust for traffic speeds, cabling type, and other environmental factors. This NETGEAR switch also supports the plug-and-play model. Just connect and go. No special software is required when working with PnP operating systems, physical systems, and accessories. That makes integration a breeze whether your network is operating at 100 Mbps or gigabit speed. Most environments won’t even require manual configuration. A series of LED lights on the front panel will let you check power status, link speed, link activities, and more at a glance. NETGEAR has configured the ProSAFE GS108 according to Energy Efficient Ethernet standards. The IEEE 802.3az standard helps ensure that power consumption is kept to a minimum. The GS108 can even throttle down when no links or activities are detected. It also features additional energy-saving mechanisms that kick in when short cables are in use. Short in the networking sense is any cable less than 100 meters, or about 328 feet. You want high-quality performance on a reliable basis, and that is what this NETGEAR switch gives you even when handling jumbo frames. Performance is delivered at a non-blocking rate without compromise. You also have the option to prioritize traffic for your most important information. You can prioritize critical operations such as video and voice traffic. This switch also has security mechanisms and supports DSCP-based QoS and IEEE 802.1 p. That means that you can deliver data at the hardware level based on priority and class. The NETGEAR ProSAFE eight-port Ethernet switch includes a 12V/0.5A external power adapter. Simply connect the adapter to the unit and then a wall outlet to get your switch up and running. Connect it to a router or access point and begin enjoying expanded wired connectivity for your local network. Not only can you connect all kinds of LAN-capable devices, you can daisy chain multiple switches in order to keep expanding your networking possibilities.

great little gigabit switch, practical and looks good

Just plug it in and go! Great little switch, pretty blinking lights, connectors on the front for easy access, rectangular metal box that lies flat and can be stacked, and sustains gigabit rates (unlike the TrendNet Green that it replaced, that didn't reach 200 mb/s). They also run cool and use very little power (I measured 3.4W). If you already pulled cat-5e cabling through your house, you can pick up a couple of these used for next to nothing.

    High Failure Rate Switch

I've had 3 of these fail in 6 yrs. Originally installed by AT&T they just stop passing traffic. Just bought one off ebay and brand new it knocked off three computers and a printer. Replace with an alt brand, also plug and play and everything works fine. The 5 port ones don't seem to fail as much as i have3 of those with no problems ever.

  • Need to expand ports on your router? Get this, not another router.

What is there to say about this? It just works. By that I mean is there is no dancing around settings and router settings and troubleshooting to make this work like you would with a router, no bridging needed. It just simply works. I know some routers are easier to work with then others but this is simply plugging plugging in your Ethernet connectors and then it works. No garbage software, no need to flash your router for open source software just so it actually works, no dealing dealing with wifi and making sure one doesn't crash the other. No this one is actually plug and play.

  • Works well, but...

This is a very high quality switch, typical of Netgear, and works fine. Just be aware that the CAT6 connectors and the lights indicating connection status are on the same side of the box, so if you want to see what's connected at what speed, you'll also have to look at and deal with all the cables going into the thing. Turning the business side away from you gives you a lovely view of the power connection plug and cable, and security lock hole in the back. I knew all this going in, and so gave it five stars for performance. But in a home environment, the thing is just unattractive sitting on a desk no matter how you turn it. Netgear's less expensive plastic home-style routers, with only status lights in the front and all connections in the back may serve you better in a home office environment.

  • Faster and More Secure Ethernet Switch

The Netgear Prosafe GS108PE Prosafe 8 port Gigabit Ethernet Switch was purchased to replace a Netgear FS108 10/100 - 8 port Ethernet Switch that was up-linked to a GS105 Prosafe 5 port Ethernet Switch. As you can imagine, this setup was causing traffic issues. This switch allowed for me to cleanup the wiring and speedup my connections without using an up-link, and with enhanced security and speed I needed. I would recommend this product,

  • Great Gigabit Switch!

This is one of the most reliable nad compact switches you may buy. Excellent metal construction, easy to install, very compact and is a Netgear, maybe the best switch around for the price. New or used is a great selection for a small network or for expantion of ports around the office.

  • Good Quality

My previous Ethernet switch had one port failure so I purchased the new Netgear GS 108. After doing a lot of research, I decided this product was the best for the money. This Netgear switch is the latest version available. It took me less than two minutes to transfer over the jacks to the new switch.

  • Just Works

The beauty of a good enet switch is not having to remember you have one. I plugged this one in in place of a dysfunctional one and have forgot it's there. Working fine and the price was great.
