Sennheiser never disappoints
For 40 years my primary over the ear headphones have been my Koss Pro 4AAs. They are now showing their age. My sadness at needing to replace them was replaced with happiness when I listened to these Sennheiser's. They sound better than my Koss at the mid and high ranges and are equal in the bass, Koss' strong point. They are also lighter. They deserve the high reviews they have been receiving

Very neutral
I have high quality B&W 803 monitors. Most headphones have boosted lows and highs in comparison. The Sennheiser 280 Pro has a neutral tonal balance and excellent detail. They are clean enough to do an initial mix down prior to mastering on high quality speakers. If you love excessive bass and sizzling highs, look elsewhere.

Sound quality not as good as I hoped
I hoped for better sound quality like other reviews said it had. Some sounds are quieter than they should be while others are louder than they should be. And the lyrics in several songs are drowned out.

I HAVE A COLLECTION OF HEADPHONES--SOME WITH WAY TOO MUCH BASS THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE WORDS TO THE SONGS AND SOME THAT SOUND LIKE THE MISIC IS COMING FROM A COFFEE CAN--THESE ARE LIKE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS--I CAN CLEARLY HEAR ALL THE WORDS AND THE BASS RESPONSE IS GOOD--THEY ARE A LITTLE TIGHT ON THE HEAD BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND THE RIGHT ADJUSTMENT POINT--THEY ARE NOT THAT HEAVY AND SEAL OUT BACKGROUND NOISE--I WISH THAT I HAD GOTTEN THESE A LONG TIME AGO--THEY ARE REALLY WORTH THE MONEY--I LISTEN TO THEM FROM MY IPHONE AND LAPTOP WITH NO PROBLEM--THANKS..

Save your ears when recording
If you’re recording in a smaller space with your drummer in the same room (like me), you need closed back headphones to save your ears (and bass traps for the kick and a sound divider). I haven’t found any better than these headphones, and you can pay a lot more for the same noise attenuation. Not as good sound quality as open back headphones, but if you want to reduce background noise, you need these.
