Asus RT-N66U 9OO mb dual router ... Its still a good Router even in 2019.

Even though this model is from the 2011 era, it is still great. I have two. One at home and another one at work. It has so many options to customize how it works. You can actually use it to send up to 8 SSID's into the air at the same time. You can clone another MAC address to it. It can handle a 450 mbs stream of internet speed on both channels (i.e.-2.4 Ghz & 5 Ghz). Most people don't even have that fast of a data stream coming into their house or business, so this is still a good unit. You can target MAC addresses to be blocked, or favor them. Has automatic WPS button for automatic IP connections. . Stand it up, lay it flat, or hang it on a wall.

Many websites says long range but

Many websites say long range and asus top brand but not at all as i really tested it. My review is not fake it is 100% true you can trust me. Range is as normal as other router brands and as compared to d - link router (normal router dir-819 rs 1200 only ) range is not strong.so putting so much money and getting single as normal router so why we Need to invest more money.i don't know why asus and other newegg and other websites put more price on this router is it business trick? or simply based on cnet or otherwise website reviews that are considered to be most valuable but that are really dummy and not real time reviews. So donot go for this router or any router based on cnet and other websites reviews but see real time any reviews exist that you have to find it is very very difficult to find 90% reviews are not fake or not matching practically.so being in so many years in market field in router area like dlink etc you can trust them but asus simply adding and highlighting like cnet reviews and ratings and increasing price but not worth to buy.

  • Good but not great range.

Running this thing with latest stock firmware. Replaced an old, unreliable wrt310n. The N66U has far better reliability. This thing seems to runs flawlessly no matter how many devices and has never dropped a connection, and, as long as in range, delivers incredible speed on both ghz. We run about 20 devices, most of which are wireless. 2 tivos via moca, a secondary router via moca, 4 phones, a roku, an ipod, 2 tablets, 2 laptops, a PC, a CCTV dvr box, an xbox and a ps4. We have 200/20 internet and can pull great speeds wireless. Can only pull 100 wired but think that is due to a long cat5e run or bad cat5e cable. I really love this router. We have had all kinds of connection problems with the old router, and this thing seems to have solved them all. The only negative I have is the range. The range does not seem great on either ghz, but is probably dueto the size and layout of our home. But we use the old router in the master suite connected via moca and ethernet to extend the range. Our home is about 4300 sq ft, 3 stories and stucco. The modem is not placed in a good spot, but can't do anything about it. The modem and router are on the 1st floor on 1 side of the house and the signal will not reach to the other side on either ghz bands. Not sure how far, but would guess over 100 feet and multiple walls and 1 floor. It does reach up to the 3rd floor pretty reliably though. Since we use 2 routers, the range is not an issue. All we use the internet for is gaming and streaming and so far no issues. Overall, I am very pleased with the N66U.

  • WI-FI Router

Excellent unit, although setting up was complicated, but once done unit almost never drops signal, and signal is good even at range through obsticals such as walls ect. good cust support and online control panel very detailed lots of options, seems to handle multiple computers, and streaming at same time without issues. I purchased this item preowned but it functioned to my satisfaction.

  • Works like new, out of the box.

Plugged it in, reset it to factory settings and it works. The condition was good, little problem getting the antenna to stay vertical, but tighten them up and works. I bought to supplement extend network and WiFi to a location 50 yards from house and it works perfectly for that. Used underground cat6 for the long run (overkill, but I feel better) and cat 5e for cable drops.. Will buy another Asus (I like the interface) for testing longer runs.

  • Good choice for running open source software

Inexpensive router which has good performance for its price. Large flash and ram memory make it a good choice to run open source software such as Fresh Tomato. Running open source s/w adds many features not available in the OEM package.

  • Nice, Basic Home Router

This router is great for basic home use, and is easily flashed to other firm-wares. The wireless signal is nice, as well. My only complaint is the lack of processing power. However, that's not an issue for most home users, as this router is several times as powerful as they require. At this price it's nearly unbeatable.

  • Hard to find, but a Nerd's favorite

Though design and manufactured in 2012, this router is still exceptionally rugged, reliable, and loaded with some advanced features, such as scheduled week day reboot and informative logs. Optional firmware (such as Merlin and Tomato] may be easily installed for IT Admin advanced needs. The WiFi is outdated [lower speeds, no AX, and lacks WPA3]. However, I needed an Ethernet port router to set-and-forget, for install in a business conference room doing Zoom presentation meetings. The existing ceiling dual-band WAP is connected to router lan port to serve wireless participants. Furthermore, I use another ASUS RT-N66U [bought in 2014] as a test instrument for various applications and diagnosing suspected other router issues. This model, no longer made, still serves me well!

  • Nice router.

Very fast. Put Tomato firmware on it and it runs great. Very stable. Has gigabit ethernet ports and dual USB's. I run file sharing and a media server on it as well.

  • Great for casting on 5G wi fi.

It provides a strong signal for both my phone and TV. Since I cut using cable or satellite, I now stream everything either directly to the TV or cast from an app on my phone to the TV. Great connection and also don't get interference from the micro wave that I used to get on 2.4G
