About this product

Product Information

The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD for Nikon digital cameras is a capable lens. These are reliable accessories for the photographer. This zoom lens comes with Tamron's Vibration Compensation, or VC, image stabilization system that makes even action shots look clear. Its Ultrasonic Silent Drive, or USD, motor, a highly accurate autofocus system, locks onto the subject quickly and soundlessly. It ensures perfect focus, whether you use the 24-70mm focal length to shoot up-close portraits or faraway landscapes. You can focus manually too, to give yourself more control over the shot. This Tamron A007 f/2 model is a full frame, f/2.8, standard zoom that has image stabilization. It is in the Tamron SP, or Super Performance, line of photography lenses. The lens lets you switch easily to every focal length from the wide-angle 24 mm to the telephoto 70 mm. Wide-angle shots display more view than shots taken with the normal 50 mm and higher focal lengths. Telephoto shots provide an enlarged view of a distant object. The Tamron Vibration Compensation feature helps ensure clear results even with a shaky hand. The f/2.8 aperture allows you to produce images that have as much sharpness or artsy blurriness as you desire. That aperture is also ideal for shooting sharp photographs in conditions with low light or natural light. The rounded, aspherical diaphragm with nine blades delivers perfect bokeh, and the low-dispersion glass promotes accurate colors. Another included feature that boosts image quality is a bayonet-style, flower-shaped hood. A hood helps prevent unwanted light or glare from ruining pictures. The minimum distance at which this Tamron 24-70mm f/2 zoom lens can focus is 15 inches. Its macro magnification ratio is 1-to-5, which occurs at f=70mm: MFD 0.38m. This gives you plenty of room to shoot macro photos. This zoom is lightweight and compact, so you can carry a high-powered lens in your bag easily. Weighing 29.1 ounces, it measures 4.3 inches from the head of its barrel to its mount's flange. Its full length, from the barrel's head to the lens' end, is 4.6 inches. It is 3.5 inches in diameter and takes a filter diameter of 82 mm. A filter with a low-profile rim is best to prevent vignetting. This lens fits Nikon digital single-lens reflex, or DSLR, camera bodies that are compatible with Di lenses. They include Nikon APS-C digital SLR cameras in DX format with or without a built-in autofocus motor. They also include Nikon 35 mm full frame digital SLRs in FX format. The Tamron photo equipment's compatibility allows for plenty of flexibility when using this lens for Nikon devices. The Tamron, Ultra Silent Drive, and VC branding is printed on the side of the lens. When cleaning the camera lens glass, remove loose dust with a blower accessory or a clean, dry cloth that is designed for photo lenses. Remove fingerprints and debris with a lint cloth or tissue moistened with cleanser, which should be the types made for photo lenses to ensure the best life span of your lens. The barrel can be cleaned with a silicon cloth.

    Fantastic Lens!

I've done an immense amount of research before buying this lens and all of the reviews I've read/watched by well known photographers and companies say it's better than the Nikon 24-70mm (non VR) at a fraction of the price. And after receiving the lens and using it on many different occasions the image quality is sharp at all points of the frame, little vignetting, the VC works great and is awesome for handheld shots and the auto focus is very quick. Overall I love this lens and couldn't recommend it enough!

    Third times the charm!!

I have this Tamron 24-70mm on my Nikon D810 and the first lens bought new and was grey market lens and had a loose barrel right from the start. Could not achieve sharpness. Second lens was US model bought used, it was ok but the barrel on this one gradually became loose as well. That may have been my fault somewhat do to leaving the barrel extended out and leaving it set with the cameras weight on it often. The second lens I bought new ( I live in the US) from Tamron Canada, I have used it now for 7 months and it has a nice tight and smooth barrel and is the sharpest lens I have had yet.

  • Tamron delivers with this lens..

Sharp, accurate color, fast focus, quiet, even with vibration control (effective) on. Price, performance and features with VC are super competitive with Nikon's excellent 24-70..

  • Good solid all-around!

I already absolutely love the lens – a great upgrade from what I'd had previously for my Nikon D800 (a prime 50mm Nikkor 50:D). Sharp image, vivid colors, fairly quiet motor. Excited to keep getting to know it over time but so far very enthusiastic! It is a little heavy – no plot twist if you read the specs, but you know – you get high quality so it's a trade off I was more than happy to make!

  • Handy but not the sharpets

Is this handy for events and all around situations. Is this the sharpest lens? No. I did some portraits with my 85 mm 1.8 G on my D7200 and it was sharper, like 30% better. I like it so far, but I do not know if I will keep it. I am not very pleased with its results. I may just come back to my 85 and 50 mm on the G versions which perform better and they are way cheaper. However, I must say, it is all about sensations. I do not know if I will get used to it, but it might be easier to work with zoom lenses.

  • One of the Best lenses out there!

TLDR; Love this lens and has become a staple in my kit next to my primes. Pros: 24-70mm at F2.8 is good, Vibration reduction is helpful allowing for wider range of shutter speed, Lock is nice to have, Silent drive is actually silent, Images are sharp, AF is suprisingly fast, focus ring is great, decent chromatic aberration. Cons: Massive, Heavy (compared to most primes), 82mm filter is hard to find in some areas lol, Slight Vignetting (but not too bad) Overall I really like this lens. Tamron really did a great job on it! For the price I got this lens at (700USD) It was totally worth it!

  • A great sharp versatile lens

This lens look and feel solid so I feel really confident about its build quality. The photo quality is amazing at all focal length and at all f-stop. One all of my Nikon lens, I have to shoot at two f-stop above the lowest aperture to get the sharpest point. So on my Nikon 35mm f1.8, I usually shoot at f2.2 which seems to be the lens sweet spot. But with this Tamron, at f2.8 it is as sharp as it can get so no need to stop it down to f3.5 to get it to its sharpest. Having said that I was just at a bowling alley for my son's birthday where the lighting can get pretty bad. I tried to shoot at f2.8 with no flash and the result wasn't as impressive. I had to switch to my 35mm f1.8 after people got sick of my flash in their eyes. I think I've just pushed the low light capability of any f2.8 lens to its limit so I wouldn't hold it against the Tamron. Overall I am very happy with the lens and its performance. This was my first non-Nikkor lens and I will buy another Tamron lens without reservation now.

  • Tamron SP Lenses - Amazing

I like many others have read reviews..watched YouTube video ect. I like many others, simply amateur at best. But there is nothing like quality gear for your hobbies right? That's why I chose Tamron. MY photos are very clear...they print excellent. Details are sharp with great color. I'll be back for the 70-200 and the 15-30 2.8s. Camera body is a Nikon d5500. GREAT rig...after lenses I hope to move on to either the d750 or d810 to complete the gear. ...all Tamron lenses though. I'm sold on them

  • Great Lens

I own a production company and we have several Nikon lenses. I figured I'd give the Tamron 24-70 a try and I don't regret one bit. It is a great lens and for the price we can't complain. A pro photographer will know the differences between the Tamron and Nikon, but a pro will also understand about the cost/benefit and lens limitations you get with any product. I am really happy with this lens and would definitely buy again.

This lens works well on my new camera. I haven't given it a thorough testing yet but what I've seen so far is excellent.
