Exactly what I wanted. Best "midi-guitar" on the market in my opinion.
as a composer and guitar player I've been doing some research on what the best midi guitar is. I wanted to play notes on a guitar and translate them to midi notes to easily compose tunes in a familiar way. Every "normal" midi-guitar uses technology to "listen" to the notes being played and then translates them to midi data. When lots of notes are played a regular midi guitar might have some difficulty processing data, resulting in lag and missing notes. Most composers have a midi keyboard because it works a 100%, that is every note you play is registered because every key you press sends a midi signal straight to the computer without processing. The Rock Band Mustang is exactly like that. In tapping-mode you press buttons on the guitar neck and they immediately sound without any lag. In normal guitar mode you press buttons on the guitar neck (you can easily press multiple buttons, making it possible to play regular guitar chords) and the notes sound whenever you pluck the corresponding strings. Also with no lag, just like on a guitar. Of course you cannot do pitch bends and pull-offs but you can add some feeling into your playing because the plucking strings register the velocity with which you pluck them. It takes some minutes to get used to grabbing chords using buttons instead of strings between frets, but when you pay attention to your playing, you can transfer your acoustic tunes quite easily to this instrument. I sometimes pick the wrong notes because it's relatively easy to press a button while moving hands between chord shapes, but I'm confident that's gonna be less of a problem when I use it more often. I've made a composition while improvising on this instrument. I played in a very free timing, stretching some notes longer than others and sometimes playing a few notes very softly. The composition sounded surprisingly organic/natural I think so it's likely I'll be using synthetic guitars more often in the future than real guitars. People who NEED guitar techniques like pitch bends and pull-offs are gonna have a problem with this. People who treat this like a guitar which plays a bit like a keyboard will not be disappointed. If you want a way to translate guitar chords and melodies with no lag and no missing notes into midi data, this is the best tool available in my opinion.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not useable as midi guitar controller.
This is advertised as a midi guitar controller also. While it does emit midi messages and triggers notes in whatever keyboard, computer or tone module is used, it's nothing that could be used to accompany oneself or use in a recording process.
