    Classic mouse rescuing!

    Although Disney animation was in a slump during the 1970s, the studio still managed to produce this worthwhile film. A more modest effort than recent Disney extravaganzas, The Rescuers still makes for great family viewing. Medusa is a villainess in the grand tradition of Cruella Deville, and the unlikely voice pairing of Eva Gabor as Miss Bianca and Bob Newhart as the timid janitor Bernard works exceptionally well. They enliven the melancholy Devil's Bayou, a haunting setting if ever there was one.

    Rescue The Rescuers

     We bought this double volume set from the 70s hoping that Disney Studios still had the excellence in animated films as when Disney's " Nine Old Men " ( his superior animation staff ) worked on his Classics . We were wrong . Although that staff worked on these also - they were aided by "new animators " - there was just something missing .  In a word - Magic ! The faces weren't as cute, the script was lackluster, the songs were not at all memorable . The action and animation were merely adequate. The hero ( voiced by Bob Newhart) was meant to be shy and down-to-earth. He came across as wishy-washy instead . Miss Bianca ( Eva Gabor ) was - well , Eva Gabor . A lovely voice for Disney films to be sure , but wasted here . These just didn't compare to the unforgettable films like Pinocchio, Bambi, and Cinderella . Sigh . What does? The one aspect which did work beautifully was the over-the-top performance by Miss Geraldine Page ,of all people, who voiced Madame Medusa .The animation was somewhat gross , but no one could personify evil as well as Miss Page . George C. Scott was an okay villain in the second film , but not quite the powerhouse that Medusa was . Alas , I'm off to watch " Lady And The Tramp ".

    Childhood Classic!

    Childhood Classic! I love the Rescuers Down Under since I was a child and now having this DVD makes me feel like a child again! I've seen this DVD at Toys R Us one day I've been wanting to buy it but never got a chance to but now thanks to Ebay I got it for a very good price! I love it! Thank you Ebay!
