  • Nikkor 28mm f2.8 Ai lens Exc++

    The lens gives a sharp picture, but the example i was able to purchase on ebay was NOT accurately rated. Camera owners should know that ebay sellers's liberal use of Exc++, etc. needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The focusing ring on my lens drags and gives off a grinding, metal-to-metal sound. I estimate this lens, while in great cosmetic condition. has sat unused for a long time where the silicon lubricants may have dried. The lens is still usable, but it would have been nicer if the focusing was smoother and less difficult to use.

  • A great buy from a great seller.

    I am fine art photographer. I like to work with quality tools. I was looking for a lens I could use when I didn't want to lug around my Nikkor 18-200. And I was looking for a lens I could use with my digital Nikon D7200 and my 40+ year old Nikon F2 film camera. The decided Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 would fit my needs perfectly. The lens is sharp with no distortion, and focus like a dream. Also, with it's small size it certainly is a lot lighter. A bonus was that the seller had a Marumi filter on the lens. I had used NIkon filters as well as B+W, Tiffen and Hoya filters and was not familiar with the Marumi brand. I did some research, and I was delighted to find out that Marumi brand was as good any of the ones I have used.

  • Sharp, smooth and fast with an aperture ring

    One reason I bought this lens was because it is one of the best Nikon lenses I've ever used. My original lens, used on a Nikon F4, was stolen. I replaced it for use on my D500. Which brings me to my second reason for buying this lens: the aperture ring. A 28mm lens on a DX sensor makes it a 42mm lens, which is great for street photography. I can prefocus using the guides on the lens barrel, then discreetly photograph scenes by either carefully composing them or by taking quick "grab shots" of passerbys.

  • Very good lens for the money

    I don't usually write a review but this is a little bit different. When I decided to purchase this lens, I did not expect to be this good but somehow decent. Well, I got it today and I hooked it up to my Nikon D750; the results were very pleasing and honestly I did not expect that. However, the reason I gave it 4 **** is because indoor in the low light it doesn't perform well enough, but wit a flash or a source of light, it is simply amazing lens. Another reason I gave it 4 **** was for the noise of the lens witch I knew about it but I did not expected to be as loud as it is. Again, paying under $100 , for me this lens does exactly what it supposed to do. Before buying this lens, I wanted the nikkor 20mm f/2.8d but it's too pricey for me and I also a little bit too wide for what I'm shooting. This however, it is perfect. Of course you can get a 24mm and it will be probably a little bit better then this but, again it will also cost a little bit more. All in all, I'm very happy with this lens and I highly recommend for family pictures kids , landscape and even portraits but, you have to be very careful not to get too close to your subject because you will run into a fisheye like picture. I hope this will help you to get a better decision on how well this lens will work for you! Good luck and happy shooting!!

  • Provides wide angle coverage without distortion

    Have used this lens for outdoor shots on a full-frame Nikon camera. Have found it particularly useful for capturing architecture. At the same time, the generous width of its field of view is not hampered by distortion of the subject. Put another way, the lens covers a wide field of view without drawing attention to the fact that it is a very wide angle lens. While I have not used this lens for many shots in which I sought to produce bokeh in the background, when I did seek that effect, I was able to achieve it by opening the lens aperture all the way to f/2.8.

  • A classic that holds up very well against modern glass

    This little beauty performs nearly as well as, and perhaps in some ways even better than, Nikon's latest AF-S 28mm f/1.8G lens. I love its excellent optics, small size, feathery weight, tough construction, super close focus, and great focus feel. It's just a really wonderful lens.

  • Well-respected old hero

    Nikon's 28mm f/2.8 in Ai-s mount is one of the greats! It is sharper and more contrasty at all f/stops than the newer models. I bought it to use with my all-auto digital Nikons because I am more than happy to forego auto focus to use this beautiful lens.

  • Great little lense

    Almost pancake sizes, nice and sharp enough, love the close focusing distance. Not to much distortion. I actually like the distortion in certain shots. Great for street work and portraits (keep subject in the middle)

  • Really "Prime" lens

    I had read a lot about the sharpness of this optic from a bygone era. The fact that Nikon still produces it on order made me think that there could be some substance to the legend. Even though it is manual focus only, and the price seemed high for a vintage lens, I got a copy simply because I didn't have any manual focus lens in the wide angle range. The legend does have substance and it is really sharp. It is built like a bank safety cabinet and will last ages. The only thing that makes me nervous about the copy I got was the super-loose (cannot call it super-smooth since it has no friction at all) focus ring. Otherwise, it was in great optical condition and performs very well. Worth a try if you don't want to get the latest autofocus versions.
