I'm glad I found this. I'm a fan of epic movies which this is. I'm a Charlton Heston fan. I'm glad I found, purchased and watched this dvd. The quality of dvd is very good, it was wide screen, which is a plus for older films.

El Cid is classic movie that doesn't get shown any more. I am a classic movie buff, yet had not seen this one. The last of an age. It is a visually rich movie — a sweeping historic epic of heroism and ethical courage. The score by Miklos Rozsa is hauntingly beautiful.

El Cid - A Spectacular Among Epics
This film is a very good example of the true epic which is no longer being made. It is overly long and one often gets the feeling that both Charleton Heston and Sophia Loren do not have their hearts in it and cannot wait for certain scenes to be finished. A big-budget production with limitless funding such as this, particularly when co-produced in a foreign country (in this case, Italy) could very easily get out of hand and it is, sadly, what all too often occurs during this film. If the true epic is your cup of tea, you will love El Cid. The color cinematography is breathtaking and there is plenty of action - glorious stuff and certainly not to be missed.
