  • Great Sound, Great Deal

I'm an old school analog guy. I hooked up a tablet to the hifi for the convenience of Spotify, but always just lived with the compressed sound. Which at full bit rate was OK, but not great. Easily discerned from CD, for example. The DAC world is populated with $2500 machines which I just don't get: it's a circuit board and some semiconductors. I wouldn't pony up. A friend uses a Rega DAC, which I examined, but passed on because of the limited bit rate of the USB input. Enter the Cambridge DAC Magic Plus. Less than $300 for a nicely assembled piece of machinery. Easy to install, with flexible controls and inputs. The sound is substantially better than the DAC in my little cheap tablet (the whole tablet didn't cost $300...). The staging is clearer, and the channel separation is markedly better. In an otherwise expensive system, this was the biggest $300 jump I have made in a very long time. Best yet: Cambridge's service was good. This is a "refurbished" unit, but it appears and works as new. All inclusions were there. The online pdf user's guide is excellent.

  • 'Last years' tech can be a valid option

An example of older technology that stands up. Within it's price range the DacMagic Plus does a respectable job with a few added tweaks, and right off you are going to run the price up some. That being, is that a weak point of this DAC is the included switching power supply, you will notice improvement with a 2 amp or better linear power supply, bass tightens up and transient detail improves. Also, if you are good with a soldering iron, a capacitor upgrade of the rail supply with Silmics, and Panasonic FC's further down the circuit takes this DAC to the next level, but the DAC is no longer a bargain. (who cares?) A properly implemented Wolfson dac is a nice piece of gear to combine smooth with detail.

  • Dac Magic plus is still great in 2020.

Hey so it will barley get you to the must have experience with the Hd800. With sonarworks reference 4 bass boost and hd800 headphone preset. I listen to alot of rap and rock and game with it. $350 one can only be happy. With more power on the 800 is gets a little better but honestly this device powers them great. Make sure to download the new usb 2.0 drivers.

  • Cambridge Dacmagic Plus

Dac performs well, adds some dimension to otherwise flat compressed audio. I run it with Apple TV 4th gen, the best way to describe it honestly and objectively is that the files that have suffered from being compressed regain its original or close to original qualities, that’s if the content was recorded well from the onset. There are tracks that will not benefit from a dac because they just aren’t that good to begin with. But clearly a value dac that is worth the money.

  • Cambridge Audio DACMagic Plus: Worth the investment

This is an excellent product. The "unsampling" effect enhances the overall musicality of the output on a very noticeable level. The higher the quality of your speakers, the more it will be noticeable. I would recommend this product to process digital music sources, bypassing the internal digital processors of your CD or MP3 players.

  • Good Music

I use it as a DAC for my Control4 Music Bridge. I like the XLR feature inter phased to a Nobsound passive preamp XLR to RCA. My 80's Bose Wave Radio went back to life in steroids and the sound on FLAC is very clean with full detail. I bought another one for my Arcam rPlay.

  • Excellent sound quality and bang for the buck.

Produces really clear sound - really warms up the sound of the digital audio compared to the onboard DACs of most digital components. Terrific value as well!

  • Does what it is supposed to do at a great price.

Works exactly as it should. Great product. A remote volume control would be a nice option.

  • Fantastic sound

Fantastic sound. Makes computer music sound like an audiophile CD player. The DacMagic Plus brings out detail, timbre, depth and weigh of well recorded music.

  • Wanted something like this for years.

I’ve always wanted something that could do my music collection justice while listening through my Sennheiser HD650s. Thank you.
