Saves time.... and time is money!
This seems like a lot of money for such a simple device. It doesn't seem particularly well built or "heavy duty"... but enough of what it "seems". This is super easy to use and paid for itself the first time I used it. I repair a lot of old Arcade Game monitors. Due to their age, this can be very time consuming. I was able to locate a bad capacitor in about 2 minutes that was causing the problem. Saved me at least an hour of recapping the entire board and troubleshooting. In addition to the time I saved, I didn't have to spend money on parts and shipping or beat my head on the wall figuring it all out. It has been invaluable not just in troubleshooting but verifying the quality of the parts I am putting INTO the monitors... especially when those parts are "old stock"... The leads are alligator clips which have worked out fine. I think a "tweezer like" set of probes would be easier for testing components while "in circuit" but the tips of the clips are exposed enough that I haven't felt the need to buy or build an in-circuit probe. It feels "cheap" due to its light weight. I have dropped it on a concrete floor at least 3 times without a single scratch so it is definetly better built than it feels in your hand. And if it had broken.... I wouldn't have hesitated to buy another!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Questionable readings...
If working on tube amps I'd pass on this item: 1 - It consistently reads capacitancea little lower than my other meters, including my Fluke 87. 2 - The ESR reading itself is suspect, I tested a 50 year old electrolytic filter cap from a silvertone amp and it read in an ESR of 0.34 Ohms.. which is suspect considering this cap is clearly deteriorated to the point of shedding dried up dielectric. So, I don't really trust this meter to give me much useful insight, and that's my experience with it.

Excellent ESR/Capacitance Tester in Small Package
Excellent troubleshooting aid. I have recently started to recondition Tektronix ‘scopes and the ESR 70+ is very effective in rooting out capacitors that need to be replaced. Most times it works fine with the capacitor in-circuit. If the cap measures marginal, lift one end of the cap to get the most accurate capacitance and ESR measurement. I highly recommend the ESR- 70+. You will find once you have one, you won’t go without one. I am not associated with Peak Electronics Design Ltd. This ESR meter will save you time and increase your production either at the bench or it's portable enough to go on the road. Has great beep tones for different functions and shuts itself when not in use. Nice lcd readout is easy to read and gives you the uf and ohm's as well as if it detects a leaky capacitor. Great product, makes it easy to find problems in a circuit.
It is a great product, but I think that the price is more suitable for professionals, who are earning their living from repairs. I think that it is difficult to justify the price for the hobbyist. They are performing constant updates to the hardware but still, I think the range is limited. The cables feel weak and this product should have robust leads or standard detachable leads like the ones that the multimeters use. This will enable more flexibility to the user as not everybody will check the components in the circuit or similarly outside the circuit.
