About this product

Product Information

Photographers often upgrade to the Nikon D600 Digital SLR camera merely for its enhanced performance and bigger viewfinder. Another brainy design feature includes improved image quality that is unsurpassed in the industry as compared to competitive models. Colors are bright, crisp, and sharp - no doubt further improved by the automatic white balance feature. The product operates quickly taking roughly 0.4 seconds, once powered, to focus and shoot. Spend the day taking up to 900 shots before needing a battery recharge. Two SD card slots, an HDMI port and the ability to use both DX and FX lenses further enhance the camera's versatility. The headphone jack and mic input are helpful when recording audio.

  • Oldie But Goodie

When I switched from film to digital (after 30 years), I wanted a full-frame camera to be able to use all my old Nikon lenses. I am married to the Nikon "F" lens mount. At the bottom of the Nikon FF DSLR food chain lies the D600, I bought it as a "learner" camera, and am truly delighted with my purchase. The one I bought is sort of a "D605," having the new shutter. It focuses quickly; gets the exposure correct; produces excellent images, in both JPEG and RAW. My main complaint (and thus 4 stars) is the complexity of the menu system. Fortunately, the camera has only one Fn button, and I shoot exclsively in aperture mode, so I'm avoiding much of the complexity (and probably capability) of the camera. My other, and lesser, complaint is the difficulty the camera has working with old lenses. Yes, there's a setup for non-CPU lenses, but it's problematic. All in all, a very decent camera for newbies like me.

  • Fx performance in a compact body

Just slightly larger than my D7000, the D600 Fx (full-frame) feels virtually the same to shoot. The image quality is very good. I purchased it with a single job in mind - copying 35mm negatives and slides using a T-Mount "Slide Duplicator" from the 1970s that I had in my closet. I had used it with the crop sensor D7000 with good results but the limited sensor size meant that many images had to be stitched together if I wanted the entire 35 mm frame to be visible. The full sized sensor on the D600 means a single exposure would encompass the entire frame. The D600 HDR mode works perfectly in conjunction with the slide duplicator. My transfers are very good. It turned out exactly as I had hoped. See the two example transfers. I recently had an opportunity to use it along side my D7000 while on vacation. The image quality is virtually identical but the extra field of view afforded by the D600 made it an obvious choice for anything I wanted to shoot with a wider angle. I used the D7000 for telephoto shots. As the pixels per degree of FOV is the same between the two when using the same lenses this seemed to work out in a very natural way. The only facet where the D7000 seemed better was in raw frame rate when shooting action pictures. It is about one frame per second faster than the D600.

  • D600 -- get the shutter fixed and you have a great camera

The High Iso performance of this camera is fantastic -- better than my D3s but with more resolution. Much has been written about the 39 focus points but I generally only use a single focus point and had no issues in low light. Image quality is wonderful. I have shot football under the lights, hockey, lacrosse and nature with this camera. After getting the shutter replaced right away I have had no oil spot issues. Battery life is great and it does have a focus motor which makes it compatible with lots of lenses. Dynamic range is very good. Don't be afraid to buy this camera used -- as long as it is not grey market Nikon will replace the shutter.

  • Works well as a second camera to my D750

I purchased the D600 as a second camera to my D750. I often have a 24-120mm zoom on the D750, and I wanted to have an 85mm fixed lens on a second body for candid portraits. The D600 was almost half the cost of the D750. The image quality looks the same, and the D600 focuses a bit slower, but this isn't a issue for portraits. Importantly, both cameras work well with the Nikon CLS remote flash control system, and I use them with 3 SB-700 flashes. I can use the built-in flash on either camera to control the remote SB-700s, without reconfiguring them in any way.

  • Great camera at discount price

Moving up from a D300 (DX sensor) to D600 (Fx sensor) Images are sharper, viewfinder seems brighter. Will take a while to get used to the different control layout, the D300 was particularly easy to use with direct access focusing/metering controls. The shutter on the D600 is quieter, the inbuilt interval timer is handy. Unfortunately the battery is different, so I have to carry two styles of batteries, that look the same but have different connectors. Camera was well packed, arrived in near mint condition...a bit of paint on a couple of control buttons had rubbed off, but that doesn't matter. Great camera and discount price.

  • Best deal for a full fame Nikon

This is the best value for a full frame Nikon Digital camera. I had the DX series and had lenses that would work for full frame. So this was a natural upgrade.. This has all the features that any photographer seeks at a great price. The 24MP does not overwhelm you and it has twin SD cards for memory. It also has wifi connectivity to your smart phone or pad. Just a great camera and great build quality.

  • Excellent camera

Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect from this camera. I wanted to get my girlfriend something new as an upgrade to her Sony a6000. Being a Sony a7iiii user myself I wasn’t sure as this camera is 11 years old. But it has blown me away, it’s so easy to use and nice to handle. The viewfinder is clear and the files are so crisp I love the colors sometimes more than my camera.

  • Great lto go full frame with Nikon

Already have a D90, so wanted full frame, and this was a good buy. Used, good as new, and low shutter count was a reason to get this one, besides promised delivery date. Long time Nikon fan, and love that they have kept lenses interchangeable since I have old favorites, and the lens is most important. Did have to update Photoshop, CS4 to CS6, since I always shoot RAW, but Camera is better than D90 for higher ISO with less noise.

  • A winning pair!

A high quality full frame digital SLR camera combined with an excellent mid range variable lens. What's not to like? Pictures are of stunning quality. Camera does fine on auto or can be fine tuned to your hearts content. An excellent choice for those wanting to step up to full frame digital format.

  • Older Technology full featured large sensor camera

It isn’t the latest technology, but with full size 24 mp camera allows for a fantastic image, at a fairly reasonable price. Savings of buying a used camera, can be applied towards decent lenses to make the most of the large sensor. And quality lenses are what’s required to take advantage of it’s full potential,
