    Ergonomically Better Than Older 5D

6D is ergonomically better than my older gen 1 5D. I've compared 5D with EF 50mm f/1.8 II, 6D with EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and Fuji X-T10 with 35mm f/2.0 lens. I must say that 6D produces a bit more beautiful images than 5D with more noticeable level of dynamic range. However, in some situations an older 5D produces by default a bit more warmer tone, and 5D picture appear to be more pleasant from time to time. But compared to Fuji X-T10 mirrorless camera with award winning 35mm f/2.0 lens, 5D and 6D images with Canon's 50mm f/1.8 lenses fall short in corner areas. When zoomed in 3 times for cropping or pixel peeping, Canon's images begin to look like painting instead of photograph, while Fuji X-T10 images look remain photographic. I regret that I have bought Canon 6D. I plan to get rid of all of my Canons and buy one more Fuji X-T10 with different lenses. Fuji's imaging is so much superior than Canons as long as jpeg shooting is concerned. If you shoot RAW though, it is an entirely different matter as long as you process your RAW file with CaptureOne Pro 7 and later. CaptureOne Pro's RAW processing engine is so much better than Lightroom or Photoshop. I no longer use any RAW processing software from Adobe.

    Nice upgrade from the 5D

But, as some others have mentioned the focusing is tricky and always at the forefront of my mind when shooting. Something I feel I should not have to worry about, something I never worried about with my 5D of eight years. Focusing is not accurate especially with my EF 50mm 1.4 lens which I love dearly when using at the larger apertures. I have used the focusing adjustment to match the focal plane of the camera with different lenses but it's like chasing a ghost, always changes with different focusing distances. It's a nice quality camera and maybe in time I will learn to live with the focusing issues but I would not buy this camera again based on better experiences with other Canon cameras. I have been an avid photographer for over 40 years and used many film and digital cameras especially Canon products for what it's worth. I hope this helps you in making a decision to purchase this item!

  • A Modern Classic

A modern classic. The 6D is still easy to use, well built and versatile. It's a great entry point to the world of full-frame 35mm. The Canon system offers great value, too, with a huge inventory of great lenses. For taking stills, it's a great performer with quick and accurate autofocus, beautiful colour and sufficient resolution. The one area where the 6D can't compete with more recent cameras is video. It can capture nice-looking 1080p footage but the lack of autofocus and in-body image stabilization make it much harder to use compared to modern mirrorless cameras and smartphones.

  • Great entry-level highly ergonomic full-frame shooter

Bought used but still has lots of life and very capable. Great affordable Canon full-frame camera that is ergonomic, solid, and waterproof. Substantial but not bulky. Takes great images in all environments and the menu is easy to navigate and personalize. Takes advantage of high-quality Canon EF lenses. I bought this used as an upgrade to a 60D cropped frame kit. Don't need to spend more on the latest rig because I'm an advanced amateur shooter.

  • Great Value

Great value; while it's a bit dated at this point, it's still a totally solid full-frame camera. After a few months of use, I only have a couple of gripes. I wish it was set up with a joystick, instead of the D-pad type thing inside the function wheel. I wish it had a dedicated white balance select button, like the 5D, and the autofocus is pretty lacking, also like the 5D Mk II I'm upgrading from. However, I'm not shooting sports, so I'm not really in need of anything fancy as far as AF points go. It would be nice to have the capability, though. Otherwise, I absolutely love it! It's substantially lighter than my old 5D II, which has been surprisingly wonderful, as someone who carries a camera around a lot.

  • Amazing camera for the price.

I've been photographing weddings and portraits for almost 15 years. In that time I have used dozens of camera bodies from Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Fuji. Each have great individual qualities. Currently I'm shooting a pair of Canon 6D bodies with various Canon lenses. I have a 5D mkII for backup, along with several older Canon bodies. As for ease of use. It's as easy or as complicated as you make it. Set it on Program and it does a decent job. Set it on manual, take control of it and it does an outstanding job. Amazing quality at higher ISOs. ISO 10,000 is as clean as 1,600 on some of my other cameras. The write time / buffer is the only limitation I have currently found. When shooting a burst of RAW files, it is not as good as the higher end bodies, but for the price, that is to be expected.

  • Camera Upgrade

I upgraded from a Canon T1s to the 6D. I was seeking less noise in higher IOS low light situations in particular with sporting events. I got that. I was also seeking better focus, sharpness, and details on far away objects and subjects. I got that as well, but to the level I would like. I have been able to move further in that direction with editing. The first question is "Is it easy to use?" This not point and shoot technology. Of course it is not easy to use. It takes time to locate features and make adjustments to any new camera and DSLR cameras have a host features. I am indeed satisfied with image quality, but I still need to figure out some photography practices to improve detail and crispness of images. A major issue not overcome is camera shake. I could not figure out for years why I was having trouble with some images that appeared focused at fast speeds which were soft and appeared out of focus. This was especially noticeable on materials over 100 yards away. I have been have less of an issue with the 6D. I can't give an accounting for why. It may be a full frame camera is helpful. It may be the weight of the camera helps keep it steadier. I have just seen improvement over the T1i on this issue. I recommend the camera though I am not prepared to give it 5 stars.

  • Older body that's great for shooting stills

The 6D is straightforward to operate if you are used to handling a DSLR. It has Canon's older, 9 point AF system, but that makes for simpler focus/recompose shooting, in my opinion. Image quality is great- you will definitely notice when using premium glass. Low light/high ISO performance is acceptable, even by today's standards, too. My 6D paired with my Sigma 24-105mm Art zoom makes getting beautiful images easy. Absolutely recommended.

  • If it's the tool you need, it's awesome!

I've researched this camera and others for 8 months and this was exactly what I was looking for. I shoot landscape, portraits, and life as it comes, and it's the right tool for what I enjoy doing. I wanted to upgrade to full frame and not spend too much money, so the 6D was a great option. It isn't the best camera for sports photography-only at 4.5 frames per second-so if that's important to you, I would choose a different camera. When I turned it on out of the box, it was in mirror lock up mode, which to the inexperienced photographer could seem like something was wrong with it. This is definitely a camera for the moderately experienced photographer-a beginner might get lost in the menu and custom settings very easily. The wifi feature is really handy, and you have to give it some time when you're operating the camera or viewing photos from your phone through the app. It doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time to respond and complete the task, but it's not instantaneous, so patience is required.

  • Best Move I've Made

My first full frame camera and I love it. My old camera is a not so old Canon APS-C entry level camera and works very well. and I have gotten some great shots. I'm using my current lenses (at least the one that are full frame) and getting better image quality, better low light preformence, much faster then I'm used too, with more control. I'm getting shots that I might have never got. It's hard to believe what a difference it has made. Overall it the best move I've made.
