    slow setup

Took awhile to get WIFI going at a faster speed than factory setting.. Go to "Radio Setup", pick a channel (don't let it Auto Detect) I picked channel 7, Make sure power level is 100%, Then go down to Select Mode and pick 802.11n Only, I left Select Number of Special Streams as Auto Detect and Aggregation State as MPDU, then Pushed APPLY... Sped things up tremendously....

Older. There are better options in 2018

There are better options as this is an older outdated design. This is pretty much a basic modem and router with WiFi. It's wireless a/b/n 300 mbps max single-band (2.4 ghz) only, and doesn't support MIMO. It slowed way down with my 45 mbps DSL when I had multiple users on it streaming and on the Playstation multiplayer. You do get 4 gigabit ethernet ports in back, and it supports single button WPS. The web interface is nice though. If you want a basic modem/router to go with your slower CenturyLink or other ADSL2 service, this is an okay option, but I recommend getting a modem and a standalone WiFi router with dual-band 2.4/5 ghz and MIMO to get the most out of it. Also, mine made a high-pitch squealing noise I couldn't figure out.

  • The only Centurylink modem worth paying for.

This really isn't a good modem. It's underpowered. When I disabled the wireless to use my real router, the wired speeds out of it went up significantly. It's not super well built. It needs to be rebooted every couple weeks, because it cuts out sometimes at that point. That said, the more expensive available Centurylink modems aren't really much better, and cost significantly more. So if you've gotta get DSL instead of cable or fiber, whether for cost or because it's all that's available, I highly recommend this necessary piece of garbage.

  • Not the greatest modem.

The C1000A modem is far from a good product. Many people document problems with connectivity, poor wifi performance and overheating issues. There is little I can do about using this modem since centurylink has very few alternatives to this device. Since I have to use it I purchased it though I would much rather use a better quality device. This device would be so much better if it had wifi antenna. Currently I use this modem modem in transparent bridging mode and use a an amped router for my wifi.

  • Actiontec Modem/Router Order

So far so good. The hook-up and activation were pretty easy, although I had to contact tech support to help me to get it to link with our Windows XP. Our wi-fi speeds seem to have improved some, although we are only able to upgrade to 5 mbps download. Purchased this one that was 6 months old, but came in near new condition along with the packaging, cables, and manuals.

  • Modem works well

The modem worked well, however they sent the wrong power adaptor. It was 12V which was the correct voltage however the end that plugs into the modem was a bit too large. I had to go to town and buy a power adaptor that would fit because I did not want to wait for the vendor to send one in the mail. There are many different 12V power supplied I discovered because I had about a dozen from various electronic devices and none of them had the correct end so I had to go buy one.

  • I've had better wireless

37 feet down a hallway to the TV--only 3 bars for wireless signal. Sometimes 2 bars! I asked "goldbayusa" the seller " I only get 3 bars at 37 feet which is down a hallway to the TV. 4 days ago it started to give only 2 bars for awhile and go back to 3. Nothing has changed in the house. I'm replacing an UPVEL that always gave 5 bars continuously. It was a much cheaper unit new at $42.00. I believe this Zyxel retails for around $95.00. Is this normal for this Zyxel unit. They answered "Hello Sir. All our items has been tested with our technician guy before to ship." CenturyLink said 3-5 bars is good. Tried to help but nothing changed. So if you have obstructions, multi levels, longer hallways (37 ft isn't far) you might think about this one.

  • Price was right but there is an odor to the unit.

This Century Link modem/router works as advertised but has a strong odor from the manufacturing process. It has been in use for about two weeks and still there is an odor coming from it although is now greatly reduced. If it had been set up in a room that we spend much time in my wife would have tossed it in the garbage. I am beginning to wonder if the odor will ever completely go away.

  • Stop paying CenturyLink to lease this item every month

With a lease fee of $9-$10/mo from the ISP, this baby pays for itself in 3-4 months. It's the same item the ISP leases to you (in fact, this was a newer version of the same model of the one I had; it's not like the ISP sends out new ones once they have you on the hook). Works as advertised. Just make sure if you do replace your ISP-provided modem to check against their published list of approved replacements, to ensure compatibility. Product arrived on time and well packaged.

  • Robust Router Modem

I had a outdated Centurylink Actiontec modem/router which I can't believe is still selling in some online stores. I read reviews about the Actiontec C1000A but was hesitant to purchase it used, but that's all I could find. Well, I can tell you this router has been the answer to all my wifi problems! It was super easy to set up and worked from the get go. I've had it for about two weeks and my wi-fi hasn't gone out once!. Robust and dependable. I also like the fact that it lays down with internal antenna, no more knocking over. So glad I purchased this!
