    Great little digital recorder!

This is my third Zoom H1 digital recorder. Love these little recorders. The other two are working just fine. I use them with G6, G7, and R600 cameras. They have been used as recorders and just as external microphones to the cameras. I like that these require only one AA battery and it lasts a long time 6-8 hours or more. The new H1 (H1N) uses two AAA batteries. I didn't want to carry around two sets of batteries despite the additional features the H1N has. I also have a Zoom H2 digital recorder that is working just fine. It is the H2, not the H2N. I like it because it has flat-facing microphones for pocket stealth use. I bought a third H1 to be used as a line input recorder when I have permission to record from a mixing board. It takes up very little space. I plan on constructing a 1:1 and 10:1 divider just in case the mixing board, or other sources, are too high in level. The third is also a backup just in case the other two H1's go bad. I use the H1 with a shock-mount when mounted to the camera. The H1 has a faster boot-up, compared to the H2. You can't go wrong with this little recorders. I haven't had any problems so far except when the batteries die, but then the recorders seem to shut down okay.

  • Top critical review

Good record quality, poor playback features

WAV and MP3 high quality records are excellent but it lacks some very important features like high and low speed MP3 playback and 32 or 64Kbps record options to extend the recording time capacity. In general it is good for the money.

  • EASY OPERATION AND QUALITY SOUND

I use two of these to record audio when shooting wedding videos. It doesn't have complicated menu settings like most of other recorders, and the light weight is one of the reasons I started using them. I plug a lavalier mic and put the recorder in groom's inside pocket, and the weight never bothers them. And you can always count on Zoom for its audio quality.

  • "LOVE IT?" RECORD IT LIVE!

Auto limiter and volume levels made some GREAT recordings of live music. More testing in the works, but I would tell my friends to buy without reservation. Compact and easy to use, with so many features.

  • Handy Little recorder

I got this and tried it, it is pretty straightforward and easy to understand how to use. The condenser mic's are very prone to pick up all different sounds. Handling the recorder while recording with the built in mics will pick up all kinds of noise, but they do sound good. If you plug in an external mic that is a lot better, it records nicely and you can watch your level meters if you want. Playback is easy the built in speaker is okay, so I suggest using headphones (best audio quality). You can't beat this little recorder for the price or usuability. It is just a great little recorder, now if you have bigger hands (like I do) you might need to pay a little more attention to the buttons (but I won't dock this a star or anything for something that I have to workaround). If you wan't something that will work for a multitude of things get this and try it out. You will be pleased.

  • Great recorder. Sttero and easy to use. Easy on battery consumption. Highly reocommend.

Good sound, small size, regular battery. Regular batteries last a good long time, and it's easy to transfer either by cable or micro sd. I have an H1n and this was a slim version of with really good sound recording quality. I had borrowed a friends for meetings, and then had to have one. Zoom seems to make great products. Max Rainet.

  • Works as expected

It does exactly what it says. Sound quality seems good, although I haven't tested it rigorously yet. It is easy to forget to turn it off, and wear out the battery though. Maybe I'll get used to it.

  • Zoom H1, the Swiss army knife of sound recording..

Zoom makes incredible recorders from simple on up to mini recording studios. The H1 is the simplest recorder but still has real quality sound. Any videographer who has been around awhile has one of these. Like spare batteries, don't go to a gig without it. Good for notes, interviews, background sounds, doubles as a shotgun mike in a pinch. Small enough to be used on your body with a lavaliere. Endless uses with great quality for the price. Highly recommended. And look into the H2 and H4 etc. Great quality at a good price.
