The only kit you need for working with silicone
Working with silicone is notoriously messy and I have often postponed it to the last moment or tried to avoid it altogether. Techniques I've used in the past were sticking masking tape, wetting a finger in a dishwasher solution, different kinds of applicators, but the results were rarely satisfactory. The silicone didn't stick evenly, edges would sometimes peel, mold would form underneath, the caulking line would be of different width every time, etc. This kit changed everything - there is no need to use masking tape, the bead profile is always the same and the best addition are those black guide rails - they allow you to slide the tool along a tiled wall and not create an indent every time the applicator hits the grout. It does take some practice to master it, but the results are always consistent and just great. If you mess up in a place, you can just clean it and redo it before the silicone started to set. By the way it works just as well for other types of sealant, including acrylic or even construction glue. It is not the cheapest kit out there, but it's the only one you will need. A good finish can mean everything!
I'm no professional when it comes to building / DIY but like to think of myself as an experienced DIY'er. I've done silicon sealing before and have always done the water and finger technique. Just installed a toilet and sealed it on the vinyl using these tools and WOW! Looks amazing! I've done some tiles against the kitchen and it's a little harder but the result is a million times better than what I've ever done before. It turns out that something that is such a simple idea really can finish a job off well! Pretty good if used properly
These work very well, precisely shaping the mastic and neatly removing the surplus. The bridge piece for passing over tile joins is maybe not so good. There's a knack to it. In fact, some practice is required in general, as with any tool. I did a bath and could have wished for a very thin one to get behind the taps. In the end I made my own from a plastic plant label. Worked quite well. Tips: don't go back! Keep going. If you go back, the bit you've done will go all lumpy. Better to start again if you mess up. Don't use soapy water, or any water. Clean the surfaces with meths and do it dry. Soapy water just makes it easy for lazy tradesmen (I know, I was one!) but the job won't last. Silicone mastic doesn't stick to wet surfaces. You might also find very complicated turns and changes of height tricky, but they are however you do it. Practice makes perfect. The kit contains tools with a variety of profiles, so most requirements should be catered for. The attachment for use with tiles is useful & reduces the chance of indentations in the mastic at joints in the tiles. The tools give a good finish on mastic. To get the best finish & easiest operation there needs to be sufficient room to accommodate the tool. A useful bit of equipment for getting a smooth and consistent silicone bead around baths, shower trays and sinks. fairly easy to use and easy to clean as long as you don't leave the silicone on the blade. Cramer Fugi - Don't silicone without it.
What a great piece of kit - 1st class, professional quality finished joints, 1st time, every time. I can't really fault this product, it is perhaps a little pricey but in my opinion it is most definitely worth it. I have used several of the profile options in my newly refurbished bathroom and have been delighted with the results. Over the years I have always avoided silicone joints whenever possible as I could never get the standard of finish that I wanted. Now I'm looking round for things that I can silicone. This item is amazing, there are obviously like items elsewhere but this is the one I bought from Plumb World, Superb price and very quick delivery. Have used this a few times now, wow ! It is really fantastic. Makes the sealant job so very easy, can now have different thickness or depth in the application of sealant. I did a smaller sealant job to the Lino flooring than the one in the shower and both came out perfectly. The attachment to tiles is genius in its simplicity also.
