  • Almost Smahsing Pumpkins- but not quiet.

I have a confession to make- you shouldn't be listening to me when it comes to this effect. I have very limited experience with fuzz pedals in general- just never cared for them that much. That said- this one isn't so "fuzzy"- it's more like an overdrive and a fuzz in one. Most ppl, I included, buy it because we want to sound like The Smashing Pumpkins. So- does it sound like them- well, mostly. It's not really the same pedal they used- they used the older version that's no longer made- this is the new, rereleased version. It has a different component in it because they can't get the same components any longer- I'm not sure which component it is that's different, but I assume it's the op-amp itself. That said- you can get like 99% of their sound using this pedal- which is plenty close enough. If you're not interested n that aspect of the pedal- just want a fuzz- this might not be the pedal for you. It doesn't' sound like a trad. fuzz- there's no cleaning up with your vol. knob on this one- it's balls to the wall or don't turn it on.

  • Perfect Sound, just give yourself time to find it!

Great sounding, great looking pedal that’s surprisingly versatile. Of course I got it because I love the Siamese dream tone, and that’s what I was mostly doing with it for the first few days, but it nails so much more than that. Anything 90s sounds great- if you are familiar with Stars by Hum, it nails it and the rest of their songs. It’s a tad bit quiet if that makes sense, so if you plan on switching this pedal on and off, just play around with the volume knob before hand so your cleans aren’t louder than your dirty sound. It compresses a lot (in a good way) so I found that by just rolling back my guitar volume a little bit, you can make sure that when you kick on the pedal it roars- there’s not much difference in loudness if your guitar’s volume knob is at 4 or if it is at 10. Overall great pedal, don’t let one YouTube video fool you!

  • Great fuzz pedal

This pedal has that particular tone that you get in a lot of 90’s alternative rock/grunge. Billy Corgan used this “Mellon Collie and the Infinite sadness” album. Op-Amp gives you heavier tones with a really nice midrange boost that works great for doodling scales. Tune your guitar down a bit and dial in the tone right, it also becomes a chugger for all us metal guys. Or leave the axe in standard and find a Hendrix-esque tone. No matter, this pedal can do them all.

  • Not exact duplicate but still awesome!

This isn't identical to the Smashing Pumpkins V4 Muff (I own the V4 and V5 amongst several other muffs and clones)... However, it is very similar. I can't say it's better or worse... it just has a slightly different flavor. For example, playing Cherub Rock, the real V4 shines. However, if you are writing new riffs, it doesn't matter. Each one sounds a bit better for different things and are equally inspiring. I say that if you already have the V4, you need to buy this pedal. The same goes for the other way around. Of you have this new one, you need a V4. The V4 and V5 are so similar, the differences could boil down to component drift... with that said, this clone is actually fashioned after the V5, because it can also remove the tone knob from the circuit via switch. The switch on the V4 actually turned the pedal on and off. You can never have too much muff no matter which way you slice it!!! I instantly wrote 3 new songs in 24 hours just by fidgeting with this thing. Get it! $80 is a steal in this day and age of boutique pedals and this thing is awesome!

  • More

Theres nothing subtle or going on in this pedal. Pretty much square waves your entire guitar signal in a good way but clipping starts right away at the softest of pick attacks. This pedal is the Smashing Pumpkins flavor of muff fuzz. It's not very dynamic and sort of hits like a brick wall. One of those ON or OFF pedals. You go all the way or you don't go with this. IF you want something with a really wide range and more complexity and sensitivity to your touch I would look at the Fuzz War by Death by Audio but it is double the price and it still won't do what the op amp muff does which is very immediate but you are sort of hostage by it. I use both

  • Huge sound, petite pedal.

Like most Electro-Harmonix pedals, it is small, easy to operate, and affordable. Definitely sounds different than the standard Big Muffs and my other fuzz pedals, but the Op-Amp wins them all (on guitar anyway, did not try it on my bass). As a old school Pumpkins-Head, this is the fuzz pedal if you want that Siamese Dream era sound.

  • This will probably be the best new guitar effect of 2018

This pedal is just what EHX claims it to be. If you have been pining for a Big Muff Op-Amp version but just could not justify the fancy clone or actual vintage prices then here is your solution by the original company. Tone? Just listen to Smashing Pumpkins and you got it. For me it is just nice to have a Muff version that is very different from my NY and Russian. Well built as you would expect and for the price it just does not get better really especially with the orange graphics. Nice!

  • If Jesus rocked, he'd rock this pedal.

when I came through, the E.R. attendant informed me that the police would need to speak to me. My hands ached, bruised and torn as they were, and there, there it was, the EHX Big Muff. All I could think as the scream rose to my parched lips was "Is that blood on the Big Muff, and I hoped without hope that it was mine".

  • I like it.

It's a bit touchy to dial in and hit a sweet spot, but once you do, its great! Still need to have more time with it, but so far so good. I'm sure I will dig it more as I get used to it.

  • “A Wall of Distortion “ Amazing!

If you are familiar with Siamese Dream( album by Smashing Pumpkins) this is the sound, this is hours and days of tone, sustain and fuzzy goodness till the cows come home!
