E.A.R. brand earplugs by 3M enjoy the best reputation of in-ear noise reduction devices on the global market. The plugs are simply rolled/compressed into a thing tubular shape, and slipped into the outer ear canal, wherein they expand to fill the canal, blocking most external sounds. Once inserted, the plugs are comfortable to wear for 12 hours, with no sensation of pressure, or ear fatigue. The plugs can usually be worn a couple of times (or more), providing they're allowed to resume their original undistorted shape during the day. They fit well, block lots or little, depending on how far in you push them.
The ear plugs fit nicely into the ears when they expand. They can be pulled out a little bit if you don't want to block everything out. Way better than the horrible tapered "silicone" style that seem to have supplanted these just about everywhere. You're supposed to roll them into a tight cylinder and let them expand slowly to seal the ear canal. Most of the others expand too quickly to insert, and/or don't make a good seal.
