About this product

Product Information

Hike with total confidence using your Garmin Oregon 650T handheld GPS unit. While automotive units are all about roadwork and traffic patterns, the key for handheld GPS navigation is topography. The 650T features a bright 3-inch screen, allowing you to read it in any conditions. If you like to create memories, use the built-in camera to record your geotagging exploits. The digital camera is a robust 8 MP device that shares photos with other touch screen display cameras. GPS device owners are even able to print their photos out as gift cards.Because U.S. 100K topo maps are included with the Garmin 650T receiver, you never get lost. When you are out geocaching, you are able to use millions of caches that you have downloaded from geocaching.com beforehand. Load up your topographic map packs and head out on the trail. If you are hiking abroad, rely on a worldwide included basemap. Whether you are in Montana or Switzerland, you should see the routes you need. Moreover, with support for both WAAS and GLONASS satellite constellations, you are able to pinpoint where you are.The included battery pack is NIMH, but a standard AA battery pair can also power the Garmin 650T. If you catch yourself a little late on the trail, don't worry; you get good performance from either battery. Of course, the Oregon 650T also comes with a flashlight to find your way home in the dark. For those into outdoor orienteering without GPS, the Oregon includes a compass that provides the information that you need. Using the Garmin Oregon is very simple. Start by deciding what type of activity you want. Geocachers download their caches to store on the device, and they automatically line up with your included maps. Geocache sites are normally places that you look for and find while playing a game. Each site may contain a box or a logbook to record names of visitors. The meta information with site details is included in each cache that you download. If you are hiking, the maps are ready for use from the time you start at basecamp. Extend each map by adding waypoints with a one-touch motion. For those who are traveling and carry a GPS for protection, just leave it on. As one of your lightest pieces of gear, the 650T series device makes it comfortable to explore anywhere. Using the compass involves turning it on from the menu. It helps you determine your bearings and your route when you are not using the GPS. Taking pictures is also a single motion touch on the screen. The way that the device shares photographs is to include a slideshow viewer that allows for compatibility. You merely load the viewer on your SIM card to share with others. With so many features, the Garmin Oregon unit has all you need for exploring.

The GPS is small and easy to transport.

This GPS unit is very good for survey work because of the many features and light weight. Being able to use it most of the day and load various topo maps is another great feature. For the money, GPS City sold me a great product that I will no doubt use for many years. Every archaeologist should have one for surveys.

  • Top critical review

It depends why you are making the purchase. In my case I want to use this item for Geocaching. Garmin no longer supports Free Geocaching.

This device does not populate geocaches nearby automatically. You must first load the area in which you preparing to search. When loading from site, geocaching (without a premium membership) only a single geocach may be downloaded at a time. Then additional information is withheld unless you purchase a premium membership. Get a GPS that will populate nearby, or simply use a smart phone that has many apps to choose from. I have not taken this unit on a hike yet however I suspect it will work well for that.

  • Oregon 650t Touchscreen is a game changer

So far this gps is performing superbly. The touchscreen is night and day more user friendly compared to the old style “toggle and scroll”. With the touchscreen, simply pinch to zoom in or out, drag.your finger to pan the map. The reception has proven suitable whether under trees or in vehicle, I haven’t lost a signal yet... construction of the unit seems sturdy enough. It looks and feels like a quality device. Overall very pleased with the Oregon. Only four stars due to smallish screen and the fact that map software is ridiculously expensive. Also, doesn’t support full detail of some software. 650t comes with USA topo map preinstalled. Not super high resolution but better than no topo. Also comes with rechargeable batteries and ac charger.

  • Garmin Oregon 650t Handheld

it freezes up all the time, have to take out the battery costandly to reset it. Horrible menu system, no software updates for all of these problems from Garmin. The only good thing about it is the size. Just don't get it.

  • Not easy to use, but then I was already familiar with how it works.

While this GPS unit is not easy to use at first, it is very powerful and has more capacity than simpler GPS units. I purchased this unit as a replacement for one with a cracked screen.

  • Great Product for the Price

I needed a good Portable GPS that I could 1. Carry by hand 2. Place on a mount (and recharge) in my Polaris ATV This unit was not the "latest" but had all the same performance and options of the latest. It will take me around the 200,000+ acre of Terlingua Ranch and once to my location, can map it for me for future reference. An additional very high resolution insert card will give me even better satellite view pictures of where I am, a great addition for such a remote and willd location of this wonderful West Texas land.

  • Good But Harder to Use Than Previous Oregon Model

Had a lot more bells and whistles than the Oregon I purchased 5 years ago so to me it's more difficult to use.

A nice GPSr with a built in camera

  • Small and option packed

Haven't used much but looks to be great GPS. First one so need to learn how to use all it's apps. sub zero weather hampers my attitude to get out and use it.

  • Easy

Very easy to use. Camera is a plus, but don't expect Nikon quality. If you understand other GPS'S you will catch on quickly.
