This was Nikons professional choice for DX cameras in 2013. The D500 is top of the Nikon APSC jungle now but at a much higher price than I paid for my second hand D7100 . If you take the time to learn how to use this camera it can provide results in challenging circumstances giving you direct access to many of the important functions with dedicated buttons. It is of strong construction with 2 SD card slots. I bought the Nikon D5300 when it first came out. Although it has similar specifications plus an articulated screen it lacks the D7100's more sophisticated autofocus system and screw drive required for older autofocus "D" type lenses and is mainly made of plastic. If you can find a mint second hand version at a good price with a low shutter count it should last for years. Nikons DX lenses cost much less than full frame FX lenses but you can use both. With FX cameras you have few inexpensive FX Nikon lenses to choose from, most being very expensive. Just my thoughts.

  • A practical choice.

As my old D700 was nearing the end of its shutter life, I seriously considered scaling up to a D800or D810. But then I had an honest look at my requirements as an amateur photographer: I'm not into shooting videos. My D700 has served me brilliantly since 2008, when I bought it. After almost 140,000 shutter actuations it still does everything I ask it to do. I do not need enlargements over 20" x 40". I love taking hundreds of photos of my kids- therefore needing smaller, quicker files than the 36MP D800/810 provides. I'm perfectly happy with the high iso performance of my D700. Yes. if you downscale the D800/810 to 12MP, it will have less noise at the ultra-high iso readings; but I just wonder: If you have a 36MP camera, are you really going to downscale it to 12MP, every time you decide to shoot a subject in low light? Anyway, I had a lot of fun on Ebay, eventually finding a brad new D700 for £699. That gave me a good £900 extra to find two near mint prime lenses that i always wanted.

  • Small(ish) high resolution DX Nikon 7100

Love this great value camera.. It takes all my Nikon lenses old and new ! It has AF tune for fine adjustment to individual Nikon lenses. Easy intuitive setup menu. Usual buttons and dials for fast operation. No unnecessary delving into screen menus after initial setup. Results as sharp as you would ever need... For me a great second body to use alongside my FX Nikon to provide a different ‘take’ on things.... Fabulous !

  • Nikon D7100

With the new year on the way..and a new venture in mind..I was on the hunt for a certain type of DSLR Camera to aid me in the 2018 career change. I’d done my research..& worked out my budget..& found this Nikon D7100 for auction on eBay. It was the right price..came with all the bits I needed to get started..& when I won the auction the transaction with Phil (the owner) was an absolute pleasure. It’s a fantastic camera..incredibly easy to use..and I can’t wait to start rekindling that passion for photography I’ve neglected over the years. If you do choose the D7100, you're getting a great camera. It's not as much of a stand-out, groundbreaking camera as the D7000 was when it first appeared. Being spoiled for choice doesn't exactly diminish the D7100's appeal, though. The short-lived continuous raw speed is our only serious disappointment, especially as this could have been the perfect camera for wildlife enthusiasts with its large viewfinder, seasoned autofocus and weather-proofing. Otherwise, it's very hard to fault, with class-leading image quality, fantastic ergonomics and sophisticated autofocus that keen photographers will definitely appreciate. The D7200 successor is undoubtedly a great Best Buy award-winning camera but it's not a drastic improvement, so you might well find the now much cheaper D7100 more than sufficient for your needs with the savings put towards lenses.

  • Nikon D7100

The best cropped camera in production today unless you want to go for the D500 which is a magic camera.(Focusing is out of this world) Results have been razor sharp and it's faster than the D7000 in every respect although I would never get rid of my D7000 as it has served me well and carries on regardless of abuse I put it up to, it still produces excellent results. The D7100 will serve anyone that is Pro or Semi-Pro as it has all the features and quality NIKON can provide for everyday use. It is good for Wildlife, Portraits, Landscapes, and Low Light (With a tripod of course) so you will be pleased whichever way you use it. All the above depends on the glass you put on it of course. If you want the ultimate then jump to the D500 (DX) or the D810 (FX) but you will pay a lot more for the body.

  • nikon d7100

bought this as a direct replacement of the d7000, the 24.1m expeed processer increases quality of the image whilst still retaining the rugged well built feel of its predecessor. this camera is ideal for the enthusiast or professional alike, never lets you down no matter what youre shooting , you have to spend an awful lot of money to get a better camera, in my opinion the best value nikon still available today

  • Best Value APS-C Nikon

I sold a D7100 when I bought a 24Mp full-frame Nikon, but realised they have their uses, for example even better resolution with macro and great portraits with a 50mm f/1.8, so I bought another and now use both! Lighter, when fitted with an equivalent lens, than the full-frame and almost as good in low light. If you want great quality and good value but don't need the extra bells and whistles of the D7200/D7500 or the low-light capability of a full-frame, grab one of these. You won't regret it!

  • My best ever buy

I got an email from eBay the other day saying I'd made 4500 purchases off it, this camera in my opinion is my number one buy, it is night and day above all its competitors, it's good enough for pro work and just as a point and shoot, produces amazing quality images although my talent helps a bit lol If you want a new reasonable priced camera that's not overly technical but can be if you desire then this is it, nikon have the d7200 and the new d7500 this puts both to shame it's ageless and will be for a while to come

  • i thought my D7000. was good this is brillant

i am only a novice but the speed of this thing and sharpness of pictures is breath taking,i know its not full frame, but the quality is in my opinion brilliant, . in low light situations you can still get good pictures,i am very happy with it,and would recommend it to any one,the quality is in my opinion superb.24 pixel is more than enough, and the extra censors on the focus area,is good too.
