A good product that works well and is light and compact. Good value from a reliable seller.
I deliberately went for this item based on the high consumer reviews because so many of the cheaper products were reviewed badly and I felt that it was not worth going through this. I wanted an external dvd / cd drive to be able to access my own personal archived photos on cd and also to watch a dvd on my personal computer. It works beautifully. It is easy to use - you only need to load some software, which comes with the player - and then you are away! I love how compact it is - very easy to store when you are not using it or to pop it into your laptop case and take with you. It comes with a standard usb connection, but I have an adapter for my laptop so I can easily use it with a usb "c" connection. You may just want to check your device before you order - or else you can easily pick up an adapter. Playback was smooth and I have had no trouble with this device yet. It is exactly what I was after, it fulfils the functions I wanted it to and I have had no trouble with a cheap product not performing as I suspect I may have done if I had gone for the bottom of the line in terms of price and / or reliability. Some of us still have DVD's....

ODD are making a quiet comeback
lightweight well built- plug in and burn read or copy- decent read and burn speeds 8X for DVD and 24X for CD are ideal for ripping audio CDs to burning DVD Isos. Some of my DVDs have lasted decades Id like to see USB drives- lasting that long. Shame LG havnt made a affordable blue ray RW yet. For those newer laptops missing a Optical Drive or newer PC cases with a 5.25 external bay missing, pretty low power usage on a laptop and very quiet generally in operation.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Easy to use, works well, could do with better documentation
Requires a software to be installed to run. While a CD with the software is provided along with the External DVD drive, there are a couple of tricky steps to complete the setup of the software that are not documented nor are obvious. I had to go mucking around with the laptop registry entries and reinstalling drivers, before one of the posts on the Microsoft Knowledge Base resolved what the missing step was. So the installation should definitely be documented better. Other than that, the product itself is fabulous! Works well, and so far, the DVDs have not skipped.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I bought this to rip a set of DVDs to my computer. I downloaded a programme called Handbrake, plugged this into the USB socket and off it went without a problem. Very simple plug and play unit.
