Cisco/AT&T microcell: a great value with some minor restrictions
I bought this to use at the office because the AT&T reception is so poor here. It is very easy to setup. You set it near a window, plug it into the network, and turn it on. It will start to immediately get the GPS signal for E-911, go through the sequence of discovery and registration, and then be ready. Then you add it to your AT&T account. I did on the personal account but you are supposed to be able to do this with a business account as well. Here's where things get a little bit murky because the instructions (paper and online) have not caught up with modifications to AT&T's management services. It is possible to do this, but you will have to jump through some hoops and go exploring until you find out where the management is. It is not straight forward. Also, adding other users to the Microcell has the same difficulties. The web searches on this are only modestly helpful and are not current with how AT&T site is structured, so it'll probably take 30-60 minutes of blindly clicking around until you find the place to add new users. Once you have done that, they don't have to be people associated with your account. Also, you are limited to 8 users on a personal account, so keep that in mind. I do not know what the restrictions are for the business account. After the users have been added, they must reboot their phone in the vicinity of the Microcell, just once, to register with the device. After this, usage is automatic. My battery life has been extended hours as a result of adding this device and no more dropped or missed calls.
One other caveat. If you make a call while connected to the microcell, you can 'roam' out of range to the outside world and your connection will handoff just fine. The reverse is not true. If you come in from your car, for example, you will not be able to handoff your call to the microcell.
One final caveat: This is a G3 device, not G4. Since presumably you already have wifi service where you will be installing it, this is minor. But, be aware of this limitation.
So, value = A+, usability = C, functionality and signal quality = A.
