Works as described but beware hefty import duty tax to UK!

Good: Very loud (adjustable) & realistic barking sound. Fairly compact unit with pleasing design. Handy remote arm/disarm keyfob Optional external motion detector a MUST as without it main unit tends to go off all the time (if armed) even if sensitivity is set to low! Very easy to use once you get hang of it and provides very effective deterrent! (I bought Beware Of The Dog sign to go with it!) Bad: Instructions a bit basic. For example the procedure to pair optional external motion sensor is incorrect. Main unit needs a lot of batteries to work without mains (advise to use high-capacity rechargeables!) and VERY hard to get the batteries to stay in unit while trying to put on back cover! Main unit supplied with mains adapter that cannot be used in UK without some sort of adapter (not pricey from fleabay or amaze-on) Arm/Disarm remote bit bulky & not very well made. I wouldn't hang it off a keyring as it will probably fall apart very quickly (battery cover not very secure either - tape it up!) Mount for optional external motion sensor is bit flimsy/thin plastic and not very tight on adjustment joint - but just about gets the job done. Had to pay EXTRA £22 to HMRC import duty! Makes item fairly expensive with US shipping charges! But, I couldn't find this unit from UK supplier/importer WITH the optional external motion detector unit so had no choice! All in all I'm pretty happy with this (albeit relatively expensive) purchase.

    Not what I expected.

First my door is metal so won't go through it. All houses in my neighbor hood made that way. All porch trim is wood grain- look sheet metal too so doesn't help. My next house will be normal wood so maybe work better!! Put next to exterior wall and kept going off over and over. Something in wall? Has to be 3' up or higher so can't put on floor but nothing to put it on near front door! Can't put in front of window cause burglar can see it! Works when I walk past it but haven't got it to work thru wall yet. Appears to require a lot of playing with location and sensitivity to get it right. Barking sounds recorded to me but maybe fool someone when heard through door but I can't get it to go off when I'm outside even waving at it through window! May have to put sensor outside but of course burglar can see that too. Only two different bark patterns that repeat with 15 sec playback, a "two bark Ruf ruf" and a 5 bark "ru-ru-ru-ru-ruf". Not sure it would fool a burglar? Need to throw in some growling and single barks and mix it up more. Volume does go up very high if desired. Didn't know main unit has sensor in it and bought two extra separate sensors that I don't need. Remote works fine.

  • Takes some tweaking to get it just right but works well after adjustment

The dog sounds very realistic, enough in my opinion, to make the bad guy pick another house. The only problem I've had with it is that the microwave oven will set it to barking even though I have tried to adjust it out. However, this is not a major problem because we only use the microwave when we're here. I have it pointed at the back patio and I'm considering buying another one for the front of the house.

  • Unit works as described

Item works well and detection range is about 10 feet beyond the door area that it is intended to cover. The "bark" volume is good and realistic. Unit is easy to install and was up and running very quickly. The addition settings of "chime" and "alarm" are useful options. Knowing what I know now, I would buy it again and may, in fact, buy one as a present for a friend.

  • Good product, works reasonably well, decent price

We call him Rusty. It works pretty good. Initially there were a lot of false barks, but after turning the sensitivity down to about 50%, false alarms are much lower. Still every now and then he will bark some when nothing is there. But it's not too bad. When someone is really there, he works perfect. The dog bark sounds realistic and ferocious. The closer you get, the bark response. We only have him activated when we are away. When we are hear, my 12 gauge shotgun is the deterrent.

  • Almost as good as my German Shepherd!

I wondered if I would really like the barking dog alarm when I ordered it... and am happy to say I like it very much! The neighbors on either side of me have been burglarized but we never have, probably due to my German Shepherd, Hellmutt. He is very protective of us and our property. When one of the neighbor's burglar was caught on camera, you could actually hear Hellmutt barking in the background. We do like to travel, however, and Hellmutt is boarded during these periods. Thus the barking dog alarm order... The bark sounds just like his! Obviously, it isn't exactly as though he is at the door, but very much sounds like he is in the house. The main alarm senses people coming up to the front door... and we also purchased two motion detectors that program to the alarm. You can put these wherever you think someone might try to enter, for example, the garage door, gate, bedroom, etc. They also work very well, igniting the barking when they sense motion. We don't know for certain if they have discouraged burglars, but we do know that such people will move on to easier "pickings" if they think a dog is home. We are happy to have some peace of mind...

  • IT REALLY DOES WORK

I was suspicious of this device because of some negative ratings, but bought it anyway. I found it very simple to install and effective .. it DOES see through walls (without metal) and is VERY effective. You can hear it from outside the house. I have left it ON all the time for testing (even though it is only needed when we are gone) and it does NOT false. If it triggers, it is because something is moving within it's range (moving drapes, animals, cars,etc.). Turning the unit slightly - or - reducing the sensitivity cured the problem. I showed it to my home security company -- They are considering selling it to denture break ins. Try it, you'll like it.

  • Defective

issue/review: Product arrived packaged well, but it is defective. Only one of the remote outdoor sensors works; One will "see" ir and trigger the alarm. The other will not as can be show by the feed-back red LED and main alarm "sounding off". The main alarm unit does trigger on it's own, but is not reliable. Some times it senses other times you can walk right up to it and it will not trigger unless right in front of the sensing area at a distance of 1-2 feet and remain there for about 40secs or more. That is you can walk up a path toward the trigger area. It might not sense you until you are 2 feet away. Other times it will sense a human at 15 feet. IR sensor (the one that works): it does the job just fine for the one that is working. I have not tested if works from outside, because I want the main unit fixed first. The IR did have a line of sight range of about 20 feet to trigger the main unit. It works for my application. I do not know the transmission range nor if it will transmit through brick walls. Nor do I know the battery life of the IR remotes. I would like to see a solar or AC adaptor for them. Even as an option. Then I would not have to worry about them being off. You will not know if they are not working unless you trigger the IR and look at the feed-back LED. Main unit function Remote works fine. Sound of dog barking is good enough for my use. I just want it to alarm me someone is at my front door or location being watched. The battery only mode (power outage) does not work. Unit only works with AC adaptor. Tried using all new batteries and testing all batteries to verify they are 100% full. That is a show stopper for me.

  • Good product, but for me it misses the mark.

Unfortunately, the one thing that I wanted this product to do was simply deter would be burglars with the sound of a large ferocious dog bark. This product does not have the sound of a large ferocious dog. To be fair this product is not bad, good build quality and good materials backed up with good instructions. But as I say the main purpose of the alarm is the barking dog and it is short of the mark. To be specific it sounds like the average friendly family docile dog that is putting on a bit of a show. Which is not what I wanted after spending such a lot of money. To be frank I wanted something that any would be burglar would think twice about getting inside my house because this dog would seriously attack an intruder. But as I say this dog sounds like the average friendly pooch putting on a bit of a show.

  • Really cool product

I live in concrete house, so I needed to have the remote sensors because the microwave does not go thru the concrete and steel. I also wanted to conceal the receiver so that a person cannot see it sitting on a table or by a window. When arrived, one remote did not work, but seller has good customer service. This system works just like any other wireless alarm. You have choice of alarm sound, door bell sound or the dog. I bought this unit for the dog. The programming is spectacular! When you first trigger the alarm that dog begins to bark. It is never the same sequence. As you mill around and trigger the sensor more times the barking becomes more intense. Then, I noticed when you move out of range of the sensor the dog still yaps a few more times. It is a brilliant concept. The unit is Chinese (of course) and if you listen near the unit, one can tell it is not real dog, but when you are outside and hear it echoing thru the house, it is really believable. I tried several locations for the base unit and decided upon setting it on the back on top of a tall cabinet for electronics and DVDs. I have the speaker directed to the ceiling. The sound echoes thru all of the house. You cannot tell where is the dog. Important: Be sure to get the outdoor sensors recognizable by the ball shape at the top of the unit. (There are two kinds available and many vendors do not tell that they sell indoor sensors.)
