Sister Act
This is a story about a nightclub singer in Reno Nevada who's married lover is a hit man. She becomes aware of his profession after witnessing a murder he orders. She goes to the police for protection, and they hide her in a convent in San Francisco until they can bring her lover to trial. Only one of the officers knows her location because there's a leak in the office and all the other witnesses end up disappearing. Needless to say it's hard to hide a lounge singer in a convent! Whoopie is terrific in the lead role. Many of the actors are well known in other movies in their own right. I've watched this movie a couple of times and don't ever tire of it. The music is phenomenally gorgeous and transports me into a space of spirit.
