    Old TV was best

    The days when TV shows were about entertainment and laughter. Were not as serious as today and engaging. Political correctness was just a word. Actors you took for granted were going to be around forever and realise now how you wish to be back in the early days.

    Well written very funny romp about the British army in India at the end of WW 2.

    Just a good old fashioned comedy, with no political correctness rubbish going on. The British continue to make us laugh and at the same time , laugh at themselves!! Old Sergeant Major SHUT UP!!!!!!! is a scream, stealing every scene he's in whether it's yelling at his troops or grovelling to the military's nobility; Captain Ashwood and Colonel Reynolds. An absolute must see for those of British comedy!!!!

    When comedy was funny

    Classic British comedy about a bunch of misfits avoiding action in WWII. The low production values count for nothing against the scripting and the acting - Spike Milligan nominated Windsor Davies' portrayal of the brutish, semi-literate Sergeant-Major Williams as the greatest acting performance he had ever seen. And it's funny - makes countless comedies produced since seem not like comedies.
