  • Steering upgrade

First of all, I don't know why I waited so long to change from cable steering to hydraulic steering. I was worried about the tubing at first and some of the connections but they worked flawlessly. I installed system on a 17 foot Xpress bass boat with a 90 horsepower Yamaha and a 10 inch Jack Plate. There is a couple things you will have to be ready for and I will fill you in on what I had to deal with. Number one, be prepared to fight the very stiff hose. Even though it is very abrasive resistant and very tough it is very hard to deal with. I was fortunate enough to have a garage with tall enough ceilings two strap both ends in the rafters and let gravity take its toll that helped more than anything. Second, fill system for steering Helm is not that great. It works but there is a couple things you could do to make life a lot easier. If I had to do it again I would make sure I put some kind of hose clamps on the fittings from the helm to the cap of the bottle and I would also put some kind of seal under the bottle cap so it would not leak everywhere when you're trying to fill the helm. Also, for the hoses going to the actual cylinder, make sure they're in the right position when you tighten them. They have a tendency to twist and direction of the nut being tightened. So if you could twist slightly in the other direction and tighten up that point you should be fine. I also installed some quarter inch thick rubber from the hardware store so anywhere the hoses touched the surface of the boat and was under pressure it would be protected. Overall, you will not be disappointed with this system. It will help to have someone help you pull out the old steering cable and install the new hoses.

  • Good product

I worked in the boat business for a few years. Pros - For the price this is a great buy. It is a great quality product as well. It is proben better than cable steering. Fyi...The hard tubing hoses need to be streched out prior to install but should be wear resistance. The instructions for installation are very clear/accurate. It has been several years since i installed this system. Cons - the instructions say do not cut the tubing hoses. If thats the case why make customers use feral fittings and risk improper crimps? Just have pre crimped fittings and be done. The helm is a bit stiff. I dont remember baystar steering having this much effort to turn the wheel? It is not awful. However it takes more effort to turn the wheel than the cable steering i removed. I hope wiyh time and wear the steering effort lightens up? Also one thing i remember from the past and saw again during this install was access to the tilt pivot rod grease fitting it obstructed. Overall- I would definately recommend this to anyone

  • This product is great!! I replaced my rack and pinion system with this and man I should have done it year ago!!

The kit was easy to install and functions like a dream. the hardest part was removing the old cables. I cheated with a grinder!! i do worry about the hoses it comes with. They are hard plastic and i worry over time will they hold up. I would thought it would have been a good heavy duty rubber line. I would definitely purchase this again and sooner now knowing what i know.

  • Baystar Hydrolic Steering

What a difference! Going from cable steering to Hydrolic has been the best purchase for my boat. The ease of turning the wheel in tight situations is great. I highly recommend this product. The installation was simple and the results were amazing. By installing it myself, I saved over $700!

  • Good product, installation/owner's manual almost worthless

Excellent product. Manual is almost worthless, and the free call to customer service is free if you're calling from Canada. The other 95% of their customers better hope they have international calling. It's not a particularly difficult installation, even if you're a DIY'r. But you will be ad libbing quite a bit. Really: the installation manual is pathetic. Lastly, the plastic tubing comes in a tight roll. Best to buy the kit about a month before you use it, take the tubes out and hang 'em from a tall tree to let the coils relax.

  • Baystar in a Bayrunner

I bought a Bayrunner 18 that had ridiculously hard mechanical steering, I replaced it with the Baystar Hyd. unit and haven't looked back. The installation took about four hours but wasn't difficult and everything I needed was in the kit. The steering in the boat is now near perfect easy to turn and positive. Overall I'm really happy with my decision to install Hydraulic steering.

  • Say goodbye to cable steering

Purchased this to try to ease the “ strong arm” steering that single point cables create with that “ torque steer” … so far it has been an easy install, and the motor will not move unless the wheel is turned…very happy about this! Quality made, and simple install on my boat…

  • Easy install..

Installed and bleed air. I used 5/16 clear tubing 20' and a tee. Cut two about three ft long attach to both bleed fittings crack both sides. Attach to tee. Run one line from tee to bottle feeding helm and it's easy one man operation.

  • Suzuki DF140 Install

Steering system itself seems to be a great fit. The install instructions are nit exact and you have to do a little configuring on your own. It is not possible on my motor to install the steering arm bolt without removing the pivot plate first and when I called tech support, their answer was that they nee to update the instructions. If you are attempting the job, then you will be able to figure it out too,
