Excellent DSLR alternative.
This camera has excellent picture quality for a small sensor camera, The F2.8 aperture across the entire 600mm zoom is bright and clear. The image stabilization is superb even at the long end during hand held shots. The only feature not available for an enthusiast is tethering to a computer for green screen compositions and such, I've done some serious checking and I haven't discovered any digital zoom cameras that offers the tethering feature so if it's important to you then you'll need a DSLR. I still use the camera for green/blue screen photography but I have to drop out the background in post. Overall, I'm impressed and it's hard not to be especially considering the price/value for a quality used unit. The reviews don't lie, this camera still competes and out shines many of the more expensive models with longer zooms. If you want a longer zoom, you may want to consider adding a quality Original Mfg. or OEM tele-extender, At least with an extender. you're keeping the lard aperture which you would loose with one of the longer zoom range cameras. 2012 Lumix FZ200 Bridge Camera
The single greatest drawback with the Lumix FZ200 is the noisy sound interference on video recording. This factor alone is reason not to consider acquiring this model Lumix. They may have improved this in later fz300 or fz1000 that feature the 4K ultra definition video quality. The bundle offered a tripod that is too small for practical use, good SD memory chip, A non TTL flash that I found very hard to adjust to the right exposure; 2 batteries plus charger, lens clearners etc and a set of compatible filters including a good polarizing filter. Considering the down side of noisy sound recording I believe the camera was over priced.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Super super zoom
I have had a Lumix DMC-FZ20 for a number of years, but it was getting very dated, esp. only being able to use maximum 2GB SDCard, so I'd been debating getting an FZ200, FZ300, or FZ1000. I really wanted to have an articulating LCD and a good viewfinder, and I also liked having the Leica lenses on these cameras. I ended up getting this FZ200 rather than the newer FZ300 because the FZ300 is way more expensive. Looking at various reviews, I was a little worried because they said that the FZ300 viewfinder was much better than the FZ200's, but now that I have the FZ200, it is fine. One of the only things I don't like is that they changed the design of the lens cap. The FZ20's lens cap is much more substantial and the "ears" to press are on the edge, whereas the ears on the FZ200's lens cap are nearer the front/center, and are much harder to squeeze, esp. if your fingers are slippery. It's really unfortunate that the FZ20 lens cap won't fit on the FZ200 :(! It comes with a "Lumix" neck strap, charger, and battery. I use an Eye Fi card in mine, and that works fine also, sending the pics to my PC automatically. So overall, I think this was a super decision and I am very happy with this FZ200. I've put a Hoya UV 52mm filter on it, but other than that, and the lens cap, it is great!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great intermediate camera
Still learning to use all of it's features and there are many. Haven't watched the CD yet which is suppose to have a lot more info than the tiny book. I have been an manual SLR user all my life. When digital hit big I of course bought in but was not always happy with the outcomes. I bought a used DSLR Nikon 3100. Much better quality but cumbersome to adjust the aperture and shutter speeds to get the effects I wanted. So far the Lumix has been easier to do this. The long optical zoom was also a huge selling features. Two of my friends who didn't have much photography experience bought the Lumix in the spring. The were posting some really impressive photos. I was convinced to buy. So far no regrets. Wish it had come with two batteries since the Lumix OEM is pretty expensive.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Very happy
This is a huge improvement on my old point and shoot digital camera. I wanted a decent camera for when I didn't feel like toting around the Nikon and multiple lenses. Zoom is more than adequate for everyday pics and the 2.8 aperture makes a big difference in low light. I did research and this quote was part of what sold me on the FZ200 :"keeps maximum aperture at a constant f/2.8 throughout the entire focal range. It’s the first time this has been managed on such a powerful lens". Now I find myself grabbing the Lumix most of the time. Shipping was fast, camera is in excellent condition. Very few people really need a DSLR instead of this
I "graduated" to a bridge camera about 7 years ago, progressing through three generations of Kodaks while they were still available. Must have features included the super zoom (greater than any reasonable SLR could provide) and the provision for a viewfinder, which I consider ABSOLUTELY essential. This Panasonic is a nearly equivalent upgrade to those Kodaks; there is a newer Panasonic with a larger image sensor which is much more expensive at this time. Anyway, the FZ200 works very well in its iA - intelligent auto mode, which is all you need in 95% of the cases. One criticism is that making some of the adjustments to deviate from the iA choices can be tricky - there is no single and complete menu tree as such, and reading either the manufacturer's manual(s) or the so-called complete manual/book by Houghton still does not result in a clear path on how to choose among the complex sets of options, unless you live almost daily with the camera - kind of like the "the VCR blinks at 12:00" problem. Some buyers have actually abandoned the Z-200 as being too complicated. A trade-off I suppose.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Amazing
I did not think it was possible to come this close to a DSLR in such a small, inexpensive package. Is it a DSLR? Absolutely not. But for general snap-and-go photography, this has better quality and more setting and override options than a lot of entry-lever DSLRs. I am a former professional photographer, and would never want to give up my DSLR, but this camera is definitely one I would not be afraid to use for most of the shooting I now do. Great upgrade from Previous Panasonic Lumix FZ5
Great new features, easy to use, quick and shape photos. Especially good at long distance images, with incredible image stabilizing features. Great improvement over my previous Panasonic Lumix FZ5 which was lightweight and gave okay pictures, but lacked any video beyond SD. This camera has crystal clear HD video with some increase in camera weight, that is more than compensated by increased features, speed and a joy to use. Little Camera, Big eye
Got the FZ200 to replace my heavy, and cumbersome Canon 30D and 70-300 zoom lens combo. Must admit, I had some concerns, but they have quickly been put to rest. Reviews seemed to claim this camera ONLY had a 600mm zoom. I don't know how a person could hand hold any more. Main uses are Sport, and Wildlife photography and I can't imagine a better tool for those jobs. (at least not for under $300.00) More adjustments, modes and dials than I'll probably ever learn to use, so it"s a good thing Auto, and Sport mode do great jobs all by themselves. Have really become a fan of the articulated LCD. At first I did not think I would use it much, but that has all changed. IS and F2.8 work great together. I'm not a "pro". Just an amateur who likes the ability to get good shots in different conditions, and this little gem allows me to do just that. Very satisfied, and highly recommend this camera if good, low light action photos are your goal.

A Great All Round Nature and Travel Camera
A fast lens coupled with a realistic amount of zoom is what makes this camera so good. The fast lens allows higher shutter speeds and lower ISO's which not only has a better chance of stopping the movement of a moving object such as an active small bird but also results in better image quality. There are longer zooms but they are of limited use unless you are shooting a relatively brightly lit static object. Try finding an unpredictable object moving against a cluttered background at an 35mm equivalent zoom greater than 600mm with most EVF's and you'll see what the problem is.
