Easy to use and gives a professional high quality sound.

Perfect fit under my dslr. I do recommend looking online and downloading the USA version of the manual. A couple of features are better explained there. Its performance is impeccable. Records up to 24 bit at 96Khz which is the sound editors choice, yet I'm using it at 16 bit x 48Khz without hesitation for its crisp and clean audio at that setting. Uses AA batteries you can get anywhere but can be powered either by a USB charger or a USB Lithium phone backup and that's a plus for the travelling film maker. Records 4 tracks, stereo or simply mono either for editing or rush delivery. I have a couple of Teac sound products still running after 20 plus years of use an abuse. This one promises to follow upon such reliability.

Not Enough Gain Therefore Too Much Noise

Not enough gain to be useful, otherwise has great features. By the time you pup up the gain, the noise in unacceptable.

  • Excellent and reliable audio recorder

This product is excellent for recording audio of great quality. Its four channels are optimum for social events like weddings, we can connect, i.e. an external stereo mic, even wireless, and use the built-in stereo mic for ambient sound. With this configuration we may have everything we need. Or maybe we can use four external monoaural mics for recording a band music. Anyway, there are many useful combinations. The file formats are of CD audio quality or higher, which is great. Definitely you can get much higher quality than the internal mic of a DSLR. By the way, this recorder has an ergonomic design which allows you to attach it to the DSLR and a tripod at the same time.

  • Nice. But has some issues.

Many of the functions on this recorder work really well. But one very important function does not . And considering that this recorder was designed to work with cameras it’s shocking to me that they would have let this out of the factory with this flaw. The audio out causes a huge amount of noise to be transferred to your camera. It’s well documented and the fix is to buy a $30 cable which is not the end of the world but the cable only reduces the noise by about 90%. There still a considerable amount and if you are using a recorder like this you probably want clean sound. You simply won’t get it with this Tascam . If you were just using the recordings inside the Tascam , your sound will be excellent but if you want your camera to record via the Tascam, get something else.

  • Great little field recorder.

Great little field recorder. Could use more external controls with less menu moves, but keeping those functions in the menus keeps the size small. Overall, works and sounds great. 4 XLR's is a big plus.

  • Tascam quality with efficient application for indie filming

The Tascam DR-70D provides the quality digital recording experience that many independent film makers need. This unit allows you to incorporate into your tripod setup to keep everything needed together on the same 'rig' (even with my Osmo - pictured). The AC option (same as android phone) works excellent, and avoids using a large amount of batteries through longer shoots. The memory cards are easy to access on the fly, and provide very quick change over between shots. The tilted screen also allows you to focus on camera framing, and then a quick double check with mics for sound. The jacks provide options to hear 'live' sound, as well as record into the camera (1/8" jack) if desired. Mixing is also great with options for mono, stereo, and even dual recording to capture a track at a lower db setting of your choice. I highly recommend this over for small budget operations; especially for one that has one or two people doing camera/sound work together... it's very slick!

  • Brand new?

I didn't expect this to be in the original manufacturer packaging, but it was! I took it out, smacked in some of my rechargeable batteries, and *blam!*worked just great! It's wonderful and exactly what I need to step up my audio game. Would definitely buy this.

  • Missing Item

I am a little disappointed that I did not receive an instruction manual with this product. I did receive it before the actual arrival date which I'm grateful for "How to use" or information for each control is something I guess I have to figure out on my own. Yes I can YouTube instructions but a manual is very important for me to have On The Go. A+ For Original packaging. Would I buy this again for my other DSLR, I'll let you know once I figure this out.

  • A good choice

For those who are familiar with sound recording. Who appreciates the quality and knows what he needs. Who is enough to have a simple recorder with a single "Rec" button, such a device will be difficult.
