About this product

Product Information

Ubisoft's musical instrument sim designed to work with real guitars returns with more than 50 new songs, a variety of new and updated modes, and a completely redesigned interface in Rocksmith 2014 Edition. While the game's action takes the form of a color-coded "note highway" that should be familiar to anyone who played Guitar Hero or Rock Band, and the new interface has been designed to be clearer, faster, and easier to use for those who cannot read sheet music, many of the changes in Rocksmith 2014 were made with more experienced guitar players in mind.

The graduated difficulty settings from the original Rocksmith are gone, letting experienced guitarists immediately jump to the appropriate challenge, and the Session mode finds the in-game band adjusting on the fly as players improvise and jam. Meanwhile, the revamped Master mode lets gamers attempt to take on songs entirely from memory. Plenty of help remains for those who have never played a guitar before, with the Riff Repeater allowing players to focus on specific segments of songs and adjust the difficulty and speed of the music on the fly, while the Guitarcade mini-games return with new activities to help users fine-tune their chords and techniques.

  • Just what you'd expect it is. And that's awesome.

If you ever just wanted to learn guitar then this game makes it super easy. No joke. It lets you set the difficulty to what your personal skill is at and then it tries to raise your threshold bit by bit as you play. Of course, it requires you to own either an electric guitar or bass to play but if you just have one gathering dust then it's the perfect excuse to pull it out and learn something with help. Does it actually work? How?: Yeah it really seems to! What it basically does is it has the score for the music notes set up on a guitar hero-esque rhythm note system and it tells you to play the ones suited for your skill level. As you manage to hit those notes better and more consistently, it adds more from the score and keeps doing this until you manage to play the entire song. You're only limited by your own skill and perseverance. But I can't play at all. I don't even know the basics!: That's perfectly fine! The game starts off assuming you know nothing until you tell or show it that you do. It has lessons, different gameplay modes and even mini-games that each are designed to help you learn the many different guitar techniques. Even if you're not sure you're holding the pick right, it has a lesson to guide you on that. If you feel like you need to build up callouses specifically then it has mini-games that will test you strictly on doing slides along strings or bending strings. Spend some time beating your high scores and trust me, you'll feel the burn on your fingertips. You keep telling me the good parts about it but I'm sure there's something bad right? I'll be straight. It's not perfect. But needless to say it's almost impossible for it to be when the controller is your guitar and that is where any problems, if any, arise. I've had some personal frustration with getting the game to sometimes perfectly recognize what notes my guitar is playing specifically because the tuning tool on the game is only mildly accurate. Does it work? Yeah sure. But it does sometimes require me to go through it a couple times before the game becomes confident that your guitar is tuned accurately. This becomes an issue sometimes when playing songs and you keep missing notes despite playing them accurately. The truth of the matter is, your guitar is just not tuned correctly when that happens. So I'll sometimes mess with the tuning or go through the tuning tool 2-3 times whenever I change keys. Which is annoying. Yes. THAT BEING SAID. That's literally the only problem I've experienced with the game. Once you're tuned perfectly, the game runs smooth as silk. (With the possible exception of bending strings which can be kind of rude) One last thing to mention is the massive DLC list you can buy new songs from which they're still adding songs even nowadays. They do run at a pretty steep price of $2.99 a song which is pretty obnoxious, but I can tell you that it's completely worth the money to play some of my favorite songs. Overall, the game's great. It's easy to use even for an amateur and is great motivation when you have a band supporting you, plus you can hear your mistakes. I've spent countless hours playing it with my friends and it's super fun even in every mode. I plan to keep playing it for years to come because I have a long way to grow.

  • Great learning tool made me a daily player

Love Rocksmith 2014 it's made me start playing almost every day my niece had taken an interest in guitar so I got this for her and their entire family for Christmas . Game shows you how to play for real with lots of tutorials and learning games besides learning the songs themselves . It allows you to practice and slow it down to where you can understand it and progress at your own pace shows the real notes for the song . They also have a band you can set up to your liking and jam with and also allows 2 people to play at the same time as well . Another great feature is having the custom tones for every song to use for just jamming in general or you can use the in game equalizer to set up your own . They also have a marketplace with hundreds of new songs to buy and learn. The only issue I have is the slugging menu when hooked up to the internet and the cord wears out like cords do so I recommend a good cheap wireless set up to stop that from happening

  • Really good way to learn guitar

Really good way to learn guitar. Feels a lot like guitar hero but not as cheesy. The tuning part seems to be a bit off from my snark tuner, but I'm not sure whether that's my fault or not. I need to play this a bit more to really get into it, but it seems like there is a lot of content included. There are also songs / albums you can buy to extend and learn how to play stuff not included in the original game. Which is cool, but I want to get through everything else first because I'm an amateur. Seems like a pretty good way to start.

  • Better than the original, more of a teaching tool

On the plus, the load times are far superior to the original. Stopping a song and repeating a riff or lick is also faster and smoother. Song list is good, with a nice variety, although you can no longer unlock new songs by playing gigs. Rather, they are purchased from the store. Plenty of stuff to start on the game disc though. I like the "session mode", which lets you choose accompanying instruments and just free jam. The program feels out your tempo and key and jumps in to support whatever you feel like playing. I haven't tried any of the exercise games yet, which look similar to those in the original game. I also haven't played with the tone creator much. If you were comfortable with the playing setup in the original, it's pretty much the same in this one, making the transition pretty painless. It's an improvement overall, and I much enjoy playing and have learned a few new songs as a result, which was the goal. Still have to set up the audio separate from the HDMI to mitigate the lag. I recommend it to friends and their children who are just starting out.

  • Rocksmith 2014 from a players opinion

I have been playing for years...and not to hit myself on the back too hard, but I actually play quite well. However; at first this was not as easy as I had thought it would be. My Eye to brain to hand seemed to be in need of a re-calibration. After a bit, it got easier and once I was able to remember the color assigned to each string things picked up real fast. I purchased the original version last week, and started using it around 28 Nov. 2016. Yesterday I got the 2014 version in the mail and that's the one you want. This one loads faster, and it seems easier to follow along with. They basically took the old version, tweaked it a bit to make it faster, more intuitive to your playing style, and the song selection is better....at least for me. The sound quality is spot on!!! Don't short yourself. Listen to this with some good headphones....(DON'T BLOW YOUR EARS OUT!) Or if you can, a nice sound system. I can't say how much I like the sound quality. I channeled the audio into my 8 track recorder that's built into my GNX4 workstation...From there I'm able to save those tracks and listen to them on my ipod so that I can play them back and check my progress by comparing them to myself. The game will tell you how you're progressing, but I'm not sure if it saves songs you played so that you can listen to them later. It's fun, song selection is pretty decent, great sound quality. The lessons are pretty good and there are many. Good value for what you're getting and what you can potentially learn from it.

  • Great tool for learning the guitar.

You need a real electric or bass guitar to play this game. You can learn how to play many songs and learn plenty of techniques. There are somewhat fun mini-games to play that utilize guitar techniques as well. There’s no campaign mode per se. If you’re not a beginner you might want to skip over this game.

  • Great way to learn guitar by your own

You listen to you and the music as you play wich is great to keep on going. The difficulty of the "game" goes with your progression, from quite easy to really hard. Need to pratice a lot but is very rewarding.
