    Very Sharp 5X telephoto lens

Low cost, small-size, light weight 5X telephoto.zoom. With my APS-C sensor Camera I am getting "field of view" equivalent to 88mm to 400mm Full Frame. There is Image Stabilisation to eliminate hand shaking and The STM (stepper motor) gives very quiet autofocus and even FULL TIME manual forcus overide even when set to AF. Focal length of 4 to 5.6 relatively slow BUT even my 10yo camera has ISO of up to 12,800.to shoot at lower light situations. Canon supplies "Peripheral Illumination Correction" data for your camera to make jpeg and raw pictures almost perfect edge to edge.

    Cheap and cheerful

Cheap cheerful and effective - a handy zoom lense that has capable performance for not a lot of money. Prospective users need to be aware that it only covers the aps-c image circle and if adapted to M4/3 it cannot be attached by focal reduction adapters due to its EF-S design baffles. But maybe most buying this fro a non-EF mount duty will be more concerned with its effective focal length reach anyway.

  • Lightweight zoom lens

This is a good starter zoom lens for people new to DSLR cameras. At 55mm it starts from the standard kit lens and travels out to 250mm, making it acceptable for nature photography. The stabilisation is good, and the focusing is quick. With an FStop of 4.0 it is not going to provide the lowest depth of field for portrait photos, however for the cost, its and excellent investment for new photographers.

  • It delivers

Just received the lens today. I took a few test shots and have to say its performance has already exceeded my expectation! It's light, compact, it's focusing super fast and super quiet yet the image is quite sharp and bokeh looks beautiful.

  • CANON EF-S 55-250MM F/4-5.6 IS STM LENS REVIEW BY DAVID FENTON

This lens does a great job for what it is. It is a light, compact zoom that is equivalent to a 90-400mm on a full frame. It is not as sharp as say the 100mm 2.8 prime or an L zoom and can't blur the background like such lenses ... but it covers the 55-250mm range for about $200 brand new (Australian). I have found this lens gives very sharp results by using manual focus, a tripod and a timer or button shutter release. I really like the STM electronic focusing in how it enables very fine focus control. I have been able to get the very best the lens has to offer by turning the focus ring slowly. It just gives a level of focus control and precision not possible on other lenses like the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro. This lens isn't a true 1:1 macro but it gets in close. And I have found it sharp enough to bring out the fine matrix details of insect eyes with my 700d. (tripod, manual focus, button release is generally needed to get such results) I use a tripod a lot but when hand holding have found the image stabilizer to help in controlling camera shake. The zoom works quickly and smoothly and has enough 'grip' to stay put so far. I get the feeling that it could loosen up in the years to come as it doesn't grip that tightly. I have found my camera (700d) auto focus to not give results as good as manual focus with this lens. But it focuses quickly and with enough precision to get what I consider ok focused shots (I am rather nit-picky about sharpness and if it isn't 'perfect' I tend to delete the photo. I do get plenty of keepers with this lens on auto focus but I'm also often disappointed with its auto focus performance on my 700d) I have a couple of primes and really appreciate the extra sharpness they provide and I would have liked to have bought a 70-200L zoom, or similar, but just couldn't afford it. I'm glad I decided to get the 55-250mm. I'm not getting photo's as good as a prime or L lens but when I share my photos taken with this lens, people comment on how beautiful they are.

  • Possibly the best 55-250mm you can buy for Canon

This is a fantastic lens for the money the image quality is awesome, it's reasonably durable and easy to use and nice and light weight, quite possibly the best 55-250mm lens you can buy. I use this on a 7D MKII and the pictures are just fantastic. I don't have anything bad to say about this lens yet.

  • Canon EF-S 55-250mm stm lens

This lens was purchased to replace the non stm version. It has slightly better optics & is so fast to focus. So far I'm very happy with the results from this lens. Only drawback is the lens hood from the non stm lens does not work on the stm version...good work Canon...you will need to buy another hood dedicated for this lens...ebay from China! .
