Great small functional trainer
The Valor Fitness BD-62 is a single station functional trainer. It was just what I wanted because it has a small footprint (about 25"x25") for those like me who want a decent workout in a small space. It's also not too tall for an average ceiling.
If you've used functional trainers before, you know how this works - you can move the handle carriage up and down the column quickly and easily to hit different muscle groups, and the points where handles or attachments are attached swivels so that you can pull from virtually any angle. And you can use either a single handle or both with no problem.
I talked to Crystal at Valor Fitness on the phone, and she told me the BD-62 is rated for 250 pounds. The good news is that unlike most cable machines, this one gives you 1:1 weight ratio - if you put 90 pounds on the carriage (45 pounds per side), you work out with the full 90 pounds, not half due to cable ratings.
You will need to attach it to the wall at one point, just to keep it steady, but most of the weight moves in an up and down motion, so the anchor point won't need to be strong enough to handle all the weights and the weight of the machine.
One negative is that the BD-62 is engineered so that the top hole can't be used. I haven't had a problem with it, but if you need that top hole, it's good to know in advance. Also there's an error in the directions, and at first mine had an 8 pound drag, but apparently whatever caused that is gone, and before that I just figured it into my workouts. I'm guessing some small piece of plastic caused it that wore away. Anyway, it didn't interfere.
I've worked out in gyms for years, and I've also owned a lot of fitness equipment, but for me the Valor BD-62 has given me the best workouts at home I've had. Is it the same quality as a $2400 machine? Of course not, but it's a really nice unit and I'm happy I have it. Kudos to Valor Fitness for making such a small functional trainer!
